Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Liam Riley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jose Tapia!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Micheangelo Fripello and Josh West.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tapia misses with a body punch
and Riley cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
A low kick from Tapia is predictable there
and Riley counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Tapia tries to keep at a distance but Riley has taken the fight into the clinch.
Riley lands a shoulder strike.
Riley presses Tapia against the cage and delivers a mid-strength body shot.
Riley throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Tapias head.
Riley using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Tapia drops down looking for an ankle pick but Riley pulls his leg out and moves away.
Tapia doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Riley cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
A right hook to the body lands for Riley.
Riley scores with a shoulder strike.
Riley lands an elbow inside that Tapia shrugs off.

Riley lands a damaging elbow.
Riley is trying to break the clinch but Tapia has him pressed against the cage.

Riley pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Riley stuffs the takedown attempt from Tapia. Tapia gets slowly back to his feet.
Liam Riley has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Tapia.
Riley bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Riley.

Riley moves into the clinch.
Riley comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Riley.
Tapia's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Riley looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Tapia is trying to pull guard but Riley has him pressed against the cage.
Riley lands with a short shot to the head.

Riley with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Riley breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Tapia closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Riley to the mat! Riley manages to get full guard.
Tapia distracts Riley with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Tapia loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Tapia is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Tapia works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Riley on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Riley tries to get out of the position.
Tapia working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Tapia escapes and gets back to his feet.

Tapia decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Riley is defending against the submission attempts here by Tapia.
Tapia is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Riley desperately trying to maintain half guard.

Tapia decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Tapia throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Tapia looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Riley!

A left hand lands to the body for Riley.
Tapia takes a knee to the side of the body.
Tapia wants to break free but Riley has control.
Riley content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Riley lands a right hand that snaps the head of Tapia backwards.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Riley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Riley is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Tapia can do to turn this around?
Tapia keeps the fight on the outside.

Tapia shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Riley is trying to defend but Tapia finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Well, if Tapia is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Tapia's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Tapia is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tapia content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
More stalling from Tapia.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tapia takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Riley jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

Tapia has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Riley uses from the top position.
