Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joey Farboni (ranked 5079 p4p, 583 weight class) and Luke Roy (ranked 6878 p4p, 647 weight class). Luke Roy is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joey Farboni!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Luke Roy!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Franklyn Lucas and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Roy lands in his opponent's guard.
Roy is looking to work some ground and pound but Farboni has wrist control.
Farboni preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Farboni wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Farboni bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Roy's guard.

Roy wants to sweep here but Farboni controlling him for the moment.
Roy is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Roy controls Farboni momentarily but Farboni frees himself.
Roy can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Farboni controls the pace.
Roy is trying to keep Farboni in close.
Roy wants to sweep here but Farboni controlling him for the moment.
Farboni is stalling in the full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Roy tries to sprawl but Farboni drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Roy wants to control but Farboni is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Farboni is keen to just control but Roy is a slippery customer.
Farboni throws a strike but Roy avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Roy is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Farboni postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've been informed that Roy has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Roy looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Farboni tries to free his leg and advance position but Roy is retaining full guard.
Roy is looking to sweep but instead, Farboni has passed into half guard.
Farboni is looking to take a break and control but Roy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Farboni is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Roy defends it well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Farboni not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Farboni takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Farboni perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Roy moves into full guard.
Farboni stands and throws Roy's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Farboni connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Roy some visible discomfort.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Roy postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Farboni is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Roy, into his guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Farboni wants to free his trapped foot but Roy is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Roy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Roy misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Farboni is looking to take a break and control but Roy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Roy tries to roll over but Farboni keeps him under control.

Farboni passes the guard and advances to mount!
Roy tries to hold on but Farboni postures up.
Farboni controlling the pace for now.
Farboni lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Roy sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Joey Farboni overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Roy wants to control but Farboni is keeping busy.
Roy is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Farboni's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Farboni's back!

Roy is persistently looking for the submission but Farboni is defending it well.
Roy is breathing heavily.
Roy has the hooks in. Farboni is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joey Farboni will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Farboni dives in for a single leg takedown but Roy sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Roy with the counter takedown but Farboni avoids it easily.

Roy ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Roy no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Farboni wants to pass the guard but Roy is keeping the position.
Farboni slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Farboni got a little sloppy there for a moment and Roy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Farboni has managed to get both his arms back between Roy's legs - danger averted.

Roy wants to clinch up but Farboni keeps it at a distance.

Farboni breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Roy closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Farboni to the mat! Farboni manages to get full guard.
Farboni has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Roy must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Roy passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Farboni avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Roy.
A bit of a lull in the action here.

Roy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Farboni's head.

Farboni is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Roy can do to turn this around?

Luke Roy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Farboni is landing with strikes. Roy can't take much more of this.

Farboni is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Roy has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
Roy is trapped and Farboni is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Joey Farboni is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well Farboni has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
