Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chet Mckenzie (ranked 5719 p4p, 0 weight class) and Faru Smiley (ranked 5749 p4p, 667 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chet Mckenzie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Faru Smiley!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Jonathan Paton and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Smiley closes the distance and clinches.
Smiley is leaning against Mckenzie and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Mckenzie wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Smiley lands a takedown into guard.
Smiley chips away with some ground and pound.
Smiley's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Mckenzie is pulling down on Smiley's head. It's preventing any offense from Smiley, at least for the moment.
Smiley preventing the sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Smiley trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Mckenzie being controlled here, momentarily.
Mckenzie might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Smiley's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smiley tries to stand but Mckenzie is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Smiley stuffs the takedown attempt from Mckenzie. Mckenzie gets slowly back to his feet.
Smiley connects with a body shot.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mckenzie tries to close the distance and clinch but Smiley swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Smiley clinches with his opponent.

Smiley pulls guard successfully.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smiley can do anything to dispel that myth.
Smiley looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Smiley is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Mckenzie works over Smiley with some ground and pound from guard.
Smiley trying to keep a closed guard but Mckenzie is proving a slippery customer.

Smiley has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Mckenzie can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Smiley is trying to control the position but Mckenzie postures up.
Mckenzie trying to stand up but can't free himself from Smiley's guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Smiley keeping moving, preventing Mckenzie from controlling successfully.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Mckenzie fails with a takedown attempt.
Mckenzie shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Smiley as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chet Mckenzie. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Smiley lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.


It looks like Chet Mckenzie has been cut.

Smiley dives in and scores a takedown into Mckenzie's guard.
Smiley seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Smiley trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Smiley cracks Mckenzie with a solid left hand.
Smiley wants to get up but he can't break Mckenzie's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Smiley must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mckenzie controls Smiley momentarily but Smiley frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Faru Smiley dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Chet Mckenzie's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Smiley clinches with his opponent.
Mckenzie really is a fat lump.

Smiley manages to break the clinch.

Smiley pushes Mckenzie up against the cage in a clinch.
Smiley looking for a takedown.
Smiley has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Mckenzie escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Smiley moves into the clinch.
Smiley drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Mckenzie tries to break free but Smiley pushes him back against the cage.
Mckenzie is trying to force a seperation but Smiley has the dominant position.

Mckenzie throws a head punch that misses.

Smiley is trying to trip Mckenzie. He has hold of a leg but Mckenzie is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Smiley persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Smiley is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Smiley with a flurry of punches that miss.
Mckenzie manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Smiley manages to get himself to full guard.

Faru Smiley has got the better of the ground game so far.
Smiley wants to sweep here but Mckenzie controlling him for the moment.

Mckenzie scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Mckenzie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Smiley works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Smiley is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Smiley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Mckenzie has his hands clasped together around Smiley's back. He's all about the action.

Smiley is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Mckenzie sees it coming and defends easily.

Mckenzie is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Smiley wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Mckenzie rushes Smiley and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Smiley is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Smiley slowing the pace effectively.
Mckenzie wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Smiley has him pressed against the cage.

Mckenzie gets underhooks to prevent Smiley's takedown attempt.
Chet Mckenzie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Faru Smiley.
Still in the clinch, Mckenzie scores with a nice short uppercut.

Smiley escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Faru Smiley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!



Mckenzie gets a double leg takedown into Smiley's guard.
Mckenzie cracks Smiley with a solid left hand.
Mckenzie is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Smiley throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Smiley has his hands on Mckenzie's head, controlling the position.

Mckenzie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Smiley is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Smiley has escaped and now he's on top!

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smiley accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Smiley trying to control the position from guard on top but Mckenzie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Smiley would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Smiley postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Mckenzie is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Smiley, into his guard.


Mckenzie gets to his feet. Smiley looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Smiley closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smiley controlling the position from side mount.
More stalling from Smiley.
Mckenzie regains half guard, as Smiley was trying to land strikes.
Smiley tries to stand but can't do so whilst Mckenzie controls his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Mckenzie is not content to let Smiley control the position.
Mckenzie is positioning himself well to prevent Smiley advancing to mount.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Smiley throws a sloppy head kick and Mckenzie moves out of range easily.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Smiley closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Smiley takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Mckenzie is trying to improve his position.
Chet Mckenzie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Faru Smiley is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Mckenzie wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

And that's the end of the fight!
Faru Smiley comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smiley has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
