Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aleksandr Petrovski (ranked 25304 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rafael De Souza (ranked 25263 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 9 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Aleksandr Petrovski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rafael De Souza!
The judges for this bout are David Hoff, Dirk Anderson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Petrovski moves into the clinch.
De Souza lands an elbow inside.

Petrovski manages to pull guard.
Petrovski pulls De Souza in close to prevent any damage.
De Souza wants to get up but he can't break Petrovski's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Petrovski is controlling De Souza's posture.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
De Souza throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Petrovski works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Petrovski is pulling down on De Souza's head. It's preventing any offense from De Souza, at least for the moment.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Petrovski moves into range and clinches up with De Souza.
De Souza is trying to break free.
Petrovski tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. De Souza just stands there and leans against the cage.
Petrovski is trying to drag De Souza to the mat but De Souza just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
De Souza lands on the inside with an uppercut.

De Souza is trying to pull guard but Petrovski has him pressed against the cage.
Petrovski wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

De Souza's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
De Souza goes for a double leg but Petrovski avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Petrovski continues to drive forward.
De Souza misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Aleksandr Petrovski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rafael De Souza.
Petrovski is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
De Souza fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
De Souza lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
De Souza misses with a head kick.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Petrovski.
Petrovski tries to close the distance and clinch up but De Souza swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Petrovski.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if De Souza can do anything to dispel that myth.
Petrovski takes a little break here. De Souza wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
De Souza manages to get back to half guard.

Petrovski is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Petrovski is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Petrovski stalling.
Petrovski wants to stand but De Souza has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Rafael De Souza will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


De Souza connects with a nice looking jab.
De Souza scores with a head kick. Petrovski tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Petrovski displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from De Souza.
De Souza tries to clinch but Petrovski moves out of range.
Petrovski fails in his attempt to clinch.
De Souza shoots in for a takedown but Petrovski shows good takedown defense.
De Souza tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Petrovski swivels and escapes.

and De Souza counters with a series of strikes. Petrovski will be more careful next time no doubt.
De Souza has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The fight stays on the outside here - De Souza looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
De Souza throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Petrovski stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

Petrovski throws a head kick that misses.
As Petrovski backs off De Souza throws a huge counter combo but Petrovski manages to avoid it all.
Rafael De Souza seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Petrovski shoots in looking for a takedown. De Souza tries to sprawl out of it but Petrovski keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. De Souza manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Petrovski throws a left and a right that both miss
and De Souza counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Petrovski avoids the head kick by De Souza.

De Souza gets tackled into the cage by Petrovski. Petrovski maintains the clinch.
De Souza is working for takedown but Petrovski is calmly controlling the position for now.
Petrovski drops down looking for an ankle pick but De Souza pulls his leg out and moves away.
Petrovski leaves De Souza with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Petrovski takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
De Souza moves in looking to clinch but Petrovski pushes him off.
De Souza changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Petrovski tries to avoid it but De Souza manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Petrovski to the ground. Petrovski escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The fighters are working up against the cage. De Souza manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Petrovski is looking to take this one to the mat.

Petrovski can't break the clinch.
A bit of stalling here from Petrovski.
De Souza is pressed up against the cage. Petrovski has hold of a leg and is looking to drag De Souza down to the mat. De Souza avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
A combination from Petrovski does no damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Petrovski fails to land the takedown.

De Souza has taken the fight to the clinch.

De Souza goes for a double leg but Petrovski avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Petrovski continues to drive forward.
Petrovski drops down looking for a counter takedown but De Souza sprawls and moves away.
De Souza connects with a body shot that sends Petrovski's belly button to the back.

Petrovski shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in De Souza's guard.

Petrovski got a little sloppy there for a moment and De Souza has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Petrovski has managed to get both his arms back between De Souza's legs - danger averted.

De Souza controls Petrovski momentarily but Petrovski frees himself.

Rafael De Souza showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

De Souza wanted to stand there but Petrovski had control of the position.

Petrovski drops back, looking for a kneebar! De Souza looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. De Souza looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from De Souza!

De Souza is trying to move to mount but Petrovski reverses beautifully and ends up in De Souza's guard.
Petrovski not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Petrovski won't allow De Souza to get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

De Souza is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Aleksandr Petrovski has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Rafael De Souza is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
