PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thirsty Thurston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Highland Park (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thurston is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. On his way into the ring it seems that Thirsty Thurston has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Thirsty Thurston seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 2, fighting out of Helsinki, Thirsty Thurston!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Highland Park!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thurston misses with a takedown attempt - Park sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Thurston is breathing heavily.

Park decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Thurston on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Park wants to stand up but Thurston has a hold of him and won't allow it.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Park seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Thurston does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Thurston is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Park looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Thurston with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Park is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Thurston with a poor takedown

and Park counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Thurston's guard now.

Thurston escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Park gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Park really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thurston. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Park tries to stand but Thurston is controlling from the bottom.

Thurston working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Park doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Park manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Park has had enough of the clinch but Thurston keeps him there for the moment.

Park wants to stand but Thurston is controlling his arm.
Park is looking to take a break and control but Thurston is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Park fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

and Park counters with a nice double leg into guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Thirsty Thurston. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Thurston is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Highland Park showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Park ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Park shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Park cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Highland Park has got the better of the ground game so far.
Park postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Thurston looks a forlorn figure.

Park pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Park landing strikes from the mount and Thurston is in trouble!

Park sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Park avoids the attempt from Thurston to control.
Thurston sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Park blocks the strikes from Thurston.

Highland Park comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Park has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
