PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kung Po (ranked 1557 p4p, 196 weight class) and Alen Ohanian (ranked 2492 p4p, 284 weight class). Ohanian comes into a darkened arena with his song building. The Eternals - Wrath of Zeus kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Ohanian misses the target.
Po throws a shot to the body.
Po looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

and Po counters with a one-two to the body.
Ohanian lands with an overhand left.
Ohanian throws a poor cross that misses
and Po counters with a low kick, right behind Ohanian 's knee.
Po throws a jab when Ohanian was well out of range.
Ohanian moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Ohanian fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Po checks it well.
Ohanian throws a leg kick which misses Po's front leg but catches the back leg as Po tries to avoid it.
Po wants to clinch up but Ohanian keeps it at a distance.
Ohanian is looking to chop away at Po's legs.
Ohanian stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Alen Ohanian seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Po tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ohanian was well out of range. Poor timing from Po.
Po takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.

A bone on bone clash there as Po blocks the leg kick.
Po swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.

enabling Po to counter with a crisp jab.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Ohanian, right into the meat.
Ohanian connects with a solid leg kick.
Ohanian throws a leg kick but Po sees it coming and moves out of range.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Po on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Ohanian scores with the left hand. Po knows he should have avoided that one.
Ohanian lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Po misses with a wild body shot.
Po swings for the body but Ohanian moves out of range.
Po scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Ohanian paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

and Po counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alen Ohanian dominated that round.

Ohanian throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Po uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Ohanian throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Po throws a leg kick but Ohanian moved away.
Ohanian swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Ohanian lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.

Ohanian will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

and Po counters with a huge left! Ohanian is in big trouble! He's backing up but Po isn't giving him chance to recover. Under a barage of punches the ref has to step in to save Ohanian from any more damage. A dominating finish by Po!

In his post fight interview, Kung Po started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
