PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bruce Banner (ranked 3051 p4p, 276 weight class) and Joe Son Pierre (ranked 2521 p4p, 232 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Bruce Banner has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Bruce Banner seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Joe Son Pierre!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Peter Branson and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice cross by Pierre.
Pierre slips under a jab from Banner.
Banner takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Banner looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Banner bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Pierre lands with a nice body punch.
Pierre loads up on a big right hand but Banner slips the punch.
Banner swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Pierre lands a jab to the nose.
Banner throws a right and a left that both miss.
Joe Son Pierre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Banner scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Banner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Pierre is looking to regain half guard here but Banner keeps moving and retains side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pierre can do anything to dispel that myth.
Banner is trying to ground and pound but Pierre uses the momentary lack of control by Banner to regain half guard.

Banner drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Pierre manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Banner has Pierre in his guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Banner tries to lock up and control but Pierre gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

I've been told that Pierre has been drilling his wrestling of late, which has already helped him take this fight to the mat. Let's see how much of an impact it has on the outcome of the ground game.

Banner manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Pierre manages to get himself to full guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Banner accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Pierre bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Banner's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Pierre stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Pierre wants it to stay on the feet.

Banner throws a hook but Pierre blocks it.
Pierre with the counter takedown but Banner avoids it easily.
Pierre lands with a good body shot.
Banner avoids a punch combination nicely.
Banner changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Pierre tries to avoid it but Banner manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Pierre to the ground. Pierre escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Pierre can't keep his opponent in guard - Banner advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Banner seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Banner scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Banner lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Pierre has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Banner is working away from the top position though.
Banner lands a big elbow - Pierre is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Banner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bruce Banner!
