The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
West slips a jab from Fatu.
West darts in trying to clinch
and Fatu counters with a right hand to the body.
Fatu cracks West with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Fatu lands a nice hook to West's body. West takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Fatu has eaten all the pies!
West tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Fatu paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Fatu throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
West closes the distance and clinches up with Fatu, looking for a takedown. West pushes Fatu against the cage but Fatu circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
West shoots in and drives through. Fatu sprawls well.
The fight stays on the outside here - West looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
A little jabbing left from Fatu on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fatu looks to land a right hand but West moved out of range.
Fatu throws an uppercut from half a mile away. West sees it coming and avoids it easily.
As Fatu looks to move away, West throws a big counter combo but Fatu just gets out of the way.
West throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
West rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Fatu counters with a lovely straight right hand!

West tries to land a front kick but Fatu steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Fatu throws a right and a left that West avoids nicely.
West misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben West. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fatu throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck West on the side of the head.
West changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Fatu tries to avoid it but West manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Fatu to the ground. Fatu escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Some bone on bone action there as Fatu checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

West swings away with a leg kick that misses.
West darts in trying to clinch
and Fatu counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

West shoots in looking for a takedown but Fatu manages to keep the fight standing, pushing West's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Fatu lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Fatu has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as West is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Fatu lands with a cross.
West takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Fatu keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
West shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Fatu pinned against the cage. Fatu gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
West throws a series of punches but Fatu avoids them all with ease.
As West backs off Fatu throws a huge counter combo but West manages to avoid it all.
West shoots in but no luck this time.
Fatu fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Fatu fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
West jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Fatu walks away with a smile on his face. West gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
West misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Despite the aggression on Fatu's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
West fails with the takedown
and Fatu counters with a straight right hand.
Fatu throws an overhand right that lands on West's shoulder, as West tries to avoid the shot.
Fatu keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
West throws a half hearted mid kick.
West misses with the combination.
The fighters circling - Fatu throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Fatu pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Horrible takedown attempt by West or perhaps it was just good defense by Fatu, which made it look bad.
West avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Fatu in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
