PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Riley Roth (ranked 25312 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcellus Barcolar (ranked 5883 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Riley Roth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Marcellus Barcolar!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Roth clinches up against the cage.
Roth pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

Barcolar has Roth pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Barcolar pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Roth tumbling to the mat - Barcolar dives into Roth's guard.

Barcolar slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roth wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Barcolar is now in half guard.
Barcolar tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Roth.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Roth is refusing to be controlled, as Barcolar sits in half guard.
Barcolar throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Barcolar is fighting to break Roth's control of his arms but Roth is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Marcellus Barcolar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Barcolar tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Roth smiles and moves away.
A big right from Barcolar misses.
Roth moves in looking to clinch but Barcolar pushes him off.

Roth fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Barcolar, pushing him back against the cage.
Roth is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Barcolar manages to break the clinch.
Roth really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

and Barcolar counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Roth clinches up with Barcolar and pushes him back against the cage.

Barcolar breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Barcolar lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Barcolar shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Roth as he avoids it easily.

Roth rushes Barcolar and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Barcolar shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Roth sprawls well. Roth wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Barcolar gets slowly back to his feet.

A close round but Marcellus Barcolar will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

With the two fighters working up against the cage, Roth just misses with a elbow thrown towards Barcolar's brow.

Barcolar is trying to drag Roth to the mat but Roth just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Roth postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Roth is in close to Barcolar's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Riley Roth overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Roth would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Barcolar shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Roth manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Barcolar is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Roth pulls Barcolar in close to his closed guard and prevents Barcolar from doing any damage or advancing position.
Roth will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Roth wants to stand but Barcolar is controlling the position.

Barcolar throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Roth tries to sprawl but Barcolar drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Barcolar takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Roth keeping hold of Barcolar's head, controlling as best he can.
Roth has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Barcolar has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Roth tries to lock up and control but Barcolar gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Roth keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Roth tries to hold on but Barcolar postures up.

Barcolar has hold of Roth's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Roth manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Roth tries to lock up and control but Barcolar gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Roth is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marcellus Barcolar comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Barcolar has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
