Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Wendell Ruiz (ranked 8078 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kwan Lee (ranked 5892 p4p, 0 weight class). Kwan Lee has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Wendell Ruiz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kwan Lee!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Joseph Jones and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Lee changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ruiz fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Lee shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ruiz sprawls well. Ruiz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Lee gets slowly back to his feet.
Ruiz really is a fat lump.
Lee checks a leg kick.
Ruiz slaps away a takedown attempt from Lee, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Wendell Ruiz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kwan Lee.

and Ruiz counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Ruiz.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lee tries to score a power double leg takedown but Ruiz sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lee somewhat.
Lee stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Lee wants it to stay on the feet.
Ruiz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lee as he jumps to the side.

Lee rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ruiz moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Ruiz darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Lee is looking to escape.
Lee tries to roll over but Ruiz keeps him under control.
Lee pushes Ruiz off looking to stand but Ruiz dives back in and keeps control.

Ruiz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Lee doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ruiz.

Ruiz is working for a kimura but Lee is defending it quite comfortably.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Lee wants to control but Ruiz is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Ruiz working over Lee with some ground and pound. Lee looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Ruiz is nestled in close to Lee, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Lee has hold of Ruiz's hands but Ruiz slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Lee shoots in looking for a takedown but Ruiz manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Lee's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Ruiz tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lee swivels and escapes.
Lee tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Kwan Lee seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Lee has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Ruiz after a bit of a struggle.

Lee has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Ruiz is on him like a limpet, forcing Lee back against the cage.

Ruiz shoots in for a takedown but Lee shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Lee fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ruiz tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Lee smiles and moves away.
Lee has a takedown stuffed.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Lee is defended easily by Ruiz.
Ruiz connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Lee's hands.

Ruiz misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Lee shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
It looked like Ruiz was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Lee clinches up with Ruiz and pushes him back against the cage.
Lee tries to pull guard but Ruiz forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Ruiz is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Lee can do to turn this around?

Lee is looking to stand back up but Ruiz counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Lee.

Lee wants to improve his position but Ruiz is controlling well.
Ruiz looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

A close second round but Kwan Lee will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Ruiz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lee pinned against the cage. Lee gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Lee throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Ruiz shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lee is trying to defend but Ruiz finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Ruiz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Lee walks away with a smile on his face. Ruiz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Ruiz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

and Ruiz takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Lee shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ruiz defends it nicely.

Ruiz tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Lee tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Ruiz defends well and Lee ends up having to push Ruiz into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Ruiz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Wendell Ruiz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lee is looking to control Ruiz's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Lee avoid being mounted?

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Wendell Ruiz.
I think Ruiz has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
