PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michal Trevino (ranked 5906 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steven Charlton (ranked 23848 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michal Trevino!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Steven Charlton!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Charlton.
Charlton does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
It looked like Trevino was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Trevino tries to close the distance and clinch but Charlton swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

and Charlton counters by moving into the clinch.

Trevino successfully pulls guard.
Charlton slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Charlton stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Trevino swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Charlton gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Trevino really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Charlton is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Trevino lands a nice knee to the body.
Trevino doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Charlton is working for takedown but Trevino is calmly controlling the position for now.

Charlton wants the takedown. Trevino is fighting it off but Charlton persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Trevino's guard against the cage.
Trevino wants to get back to his feet but Charlton is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Charlton is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Trevino is striking off his back. Charlton thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Charlton perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Charlton slips a nice elbow through Trevino's hands, connecting with Trevino's forehead.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Trevino is trying to stand.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Charlton is looking to advance position but Trevino won't allow it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Charlton dives in and scores a takedown into Trevino's guard.
Charlton is stalling in the full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Charlton's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Trevino fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Nice takedown defense from Trevino. No joy for Charlton on that attempt.

Trevino looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Charlton keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Trevino is nestled in close to Charlton, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Trevino wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Charlton uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Charlton throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Trevino is looking to work some ground and pound but Charlton has wrist control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Charlton is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Trevino's half guard.
Trevino tries to kick Charlton off in order to stand up. Charlton Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Trevino pushes Charlton away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Charlton gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Steven Charlton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Charlton has Trevino pressed against the cage, preventing Trevino from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Trevino wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Charlton has him pressed against the cage.
Trevino jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Charlton walks away with a smile on his face. Trevino gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Charlton has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Trevino uses from the top position.

Charlton wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Let's hope that Charlton has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Charlton changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Trevino tries to avoid it but Charlton manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Trevino to the ground. Trevino escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Charlton stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Charlton wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Michal Trevino. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Well Charlton has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
