Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Charley Cross!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dustin Sommer!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sommer closes the distance looking to clinch

so Cross counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Sommer wriggles free and stands up.
Sommer misses with a head kick.
Cross could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Sommer gets caught flat footed, as Cross shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Sommer pushes Cross off and scrambles back to his feet.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Cross throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sommer was covering up waiting for the punch and Cross finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Sommer utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Cross tries to free his leg and advance position but Sommer is retaining full guard.
Cross might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Sommer tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Cross lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Sommer has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Cross has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
Sommer wants to get back to striking at distance but Cross won't allow it.

Cross breaks the clinch.
Sommer misses with a head kick.
Sommer throws a sloppy head kick and Cross moves out of range easily.

Sommer throws a low kick, looking for Cross's leg but Cross calmly moves out of range.

Cross is trying to work for a kimura but Sommer is defending well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cross wants to stand but Sommer has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Cross is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Sommer sees it coming and defends easily.

Cross is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sommer defends it well.
Sommer preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Cross lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Sommer is looking to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Cross is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

A close round but Dustin Sommer will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Cross stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cross wants it to stay on the feet.
Sommer throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cross's waist but Cross gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sommer off to one side.
Cross is looking to counter punch.
Sommer tries to clinch up.
Cross feinted with a counter takedown.
Cross moves out of range as Sommer throws a body kick.
Cross looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Cross looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Sommer is fending him off so far but Cross persists. Nope, Sommer circles away and we're back to standing.
Sommer shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Cross but Cross pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Cross throws a counter high kick but Sommer was just alert enough to avoid it.
Charley Cross has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dustin Sommer.
Cross fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Sommer avoids it really well and circles away.
Sommer is breathing heavily.

A head kick misses from Sommer.

Cross closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sommer's guard.

Cross drops back, looking for a kneebar! Sommer looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Sommer looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Sommer!

Cross gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Cross manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Cross looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Charley Cross overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cross manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sommer manages to get himself to full guard.


Cross stands and steps away. Sommer gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Cross closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cross lands in his opponent's guard.
Cross lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Sommer is working an open guard so Cross takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Cross shoots in but Sommer avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Cross shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sommer sprawls well. Sommer wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cross gets slowly back to his feet.

Cross misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sommer throws a lazy body kick
and Cross counters with an outside leg kick.
Sommer falls off balance throwing a combination

and Cross counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Sommer wants to stand back up but Cross manages to pass into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Cross thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Charley Cross dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Sommer misses with a jab, cross combination.

Cross dodges the punch combination from Sommer.
It looked like Cross was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Sommer throws a head kick that misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Cross decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Cross is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Sommer defends it well.

Cross looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Cross landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Cross is working for a kimura but Sommer is defending it quite comfortably.
Sommer wants to improve his position but Cross is controlling well.

Cross throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Cross postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Sommer to stand up.

Cross fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Sommer to the ground. Cross is now in Sommer's guard.
Sommer is trying to control the position but Cross postures up.

Cross postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Sommer is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Cross, into his guard.

Sommer trying to control the position from guard on top but Cross is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Charley Cross.
I think Cross has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
