The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Imonen takes the fight into the clinch.
Imonen is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Barnes is defending well.
Imonen wants to get back to striking at distance but Barnes won't allow it.
Imonen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Despite the aggression on Imonen's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Imonen throws a sloppy head kick and Barnes moves out of range easily.
Barnes throws a big counter combination but Imonen scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Barnes shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Imonen sprawls well. Imonen wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Barnes gets slowly back to his feet.

Barnes drops down looking for an ankle pick but Imonen pulls his leg out and moves away.
Imonen bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Barnes is breathing heavily.

and Barnes counters with a nice double leg into side control. Imonen won't be happy with that.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Imonen is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Barnes asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Imonen is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

As Imonen tries to get set, Barnes tries to push him back and clinch up but Imonen manages to avoid the attempt.

Imonen wants to stand and escape but Barnes is having none of it.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Barnes throws an elbow that misses. Imonen uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Barnes's guard. Nice move by Imonen!

Imonen wants to get up but he can't break Barnes's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Barnes pulls Imonen in to control the position.
Imonen must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Barnes continues to stall.
Imonen wanted to stand there but Barnes had control of the position.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Imonen tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Barnes manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Imonen connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Barnes covering up! Imonen comes in with a big uppercut and Barnes goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.
