PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thad Clarke (ranked 25021 p4p, 0 weight class) and Larry Shamrock (ranked 3800 p4p, 0 weight class). Clarke has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Thad Clarke!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Larry Shamrock!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Chad Campbell and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shamrock shoots in and bounces Clarke off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Clarke is breathing heavily.
Shamrock trying to control but Clarke is working from the bottom.
Shamrock controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Shamrock stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Clarke swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Shamrock postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Clarke is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shamrock trying to control but Clarke is working from the bottom.

Clarke might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Clarke is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Shamrock is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Clarke is looking to stand up but Shamrock isn't so interested in that idea.

Shamrock stands up from Clarke's guard - Shamrock perhaps looking for a knockout.
Clarke takes a head kick and shrugs it off.


It looks like Thad Clarke has been cut.

Clarke wants to stand and escape but Shamrock is having none of it.

Shamrock is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Shamrock drops back looking for a leg! Clarke is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Clarke manages to kick Shamrock off! Shamrock jumps back into Clarke's guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Shamrock postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Clarke really is a fat lump.
Shamrock wants to pass the guard but Clarke is keeping the position.
Shamrock wants to control from the top but Clarke keeps moving.
Shamrock slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Shamrock lands an elbow.
Shamrock wants to lay and pray for a moment but Clarke keeps working.
Clarke wants to get back to his feet.
Shamrock lands a nice forearm strike.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Shamrock slows the pace down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Shamrock throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Clarke was covering up waiting for the punch and Shamrock finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Shamrock engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Shamrock makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Clarke keeping moving, preventing Shamrock from controlling successfully.
Shamrock seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shamrock distracts Clarke with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Shamrock stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Clarke on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Shamrock lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Shamrock.
Shamrock scores with a slapping inside leg kick.

Shamrock closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Shamrock prevents Clarke from standing back up.
Clarke is not content to let Shamrock control the position.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Shamrock. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Shamrock is working for a submission of some sort.
Clarke wants to get back to his feet.
Still in half guard, Shamrock seems content to control.
Clarke has hold of Shamrock's hands but Shamrock slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Shamrock seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Clarke is staying active underneath Shamrock, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Shamrock drives through with a takedown into Clarke's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Clarke wants to stand up but Shamrock is controlling him.
Shamrock must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Shamrock chips away with some ground and pound.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Clarke utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Clarke is working an open guard so Shamrock takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Clarke gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Clarke has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Shamrock has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Larry Shamrock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Shamrock changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Clarke looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Shamrock passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Clarke!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Shamrock looking to control and managing it successfully.
Oh Clarke is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Clarke takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Clarke in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Shamrock postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Clarke bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Shamrock and the fight is over!
