PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Carl Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tiago Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mendez has chosen Trap Door as his entrance music. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Carl Allen !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Tiago Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, William Gold and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Allen pinned against the cage. Allen gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Allen takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Allen shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Mendez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Mendez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Allen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mendez's guard.
Mendez has a closed guard, preventing Allen from standing up.
Mendez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Allen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Allen wants to control from the top but Mendez keeps moving.
Allen pushes down on Mendez's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Mendez trying to control here.

Allen decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Allen shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mendez as he avoids it easily.
Mendez misses with the combination.
Allen misses with a double jab.
Allen avoids the head kick by Mendez.

Allen drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Allen is breathing heavily.
Mendez tries to bench press Allen off him but Allen keeps the position.
Mendez is trying to control Allen 's posture but Allen avoids it.
Mendez tries to escape but Allen is in control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Allen is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mendez has escaped the position, nice work there.
Mendez can't do much from the bottom here.
Mendez is trying to buck Allen off.

Mendez explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Mendez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Allen rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mendez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Mendez moves into the clinch successfully.
Allen wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Mendez has him pressed against the cage.
Allen keeps control of Mendez as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Allen 's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mendez avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Allen misses with a few strikes there.
Mendez fails with a takedown attempt.
Allen throws out a loose jab but Mendez uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mendez tries to work over Allen 's front leg with a kick but Allen checks it.

Mendez closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Allen is trying to control but can't.

Allen is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Mendez pulls his head out easily.
Mendez uses his free foot to push down on Allen 's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Allen .
Mendez landing strikes from the mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Allen is wriggling around trying to escape.
Mendez tries to control but Allen wriggling away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mendez is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Allen can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Mendez can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Allen is looking to escape.
Allen looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back!
Mendez has Allen flattened out and is raining down punches.
Mendez throwing damaging strikes from the back! Allen could be in trouble here!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tiago Mendez dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Allen wants to clinch up but Mendez keeps it at a distance.
Allen misses with a double jab.
Carl Allen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Allen throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Mendez.

Mendez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Mendez wants to control but Allen is keeping him busy.
Allen is looking for a sweep.
Mendez trying to control the action but Allen is working from the bottom.
Check out the look on Mendez's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Mendez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Allen keeps working.
Allen struggling a bit here.

Allen tries to bench press Mendez off him but Mendez keeps the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Allen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mendez but Mendez pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mendez tries to bum rush Allen with a series of wild strikes but Allen uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Mendez tries to close the distance and clinch but Allen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Mendez avoids the body shot from Allen .
Allen is looking to clinch.

Mendez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Allen looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Mendez has hold of Allen 's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Allen seems comfortable defending it but Mendez has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Allen is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Allen is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Mendez couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Tiago Mendez!
