PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kiazer Soze (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). James Wong struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 186.2lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Kiazer Soze had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wong keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Soze slips a jab and a cross from Wong.
Wong throws a right hand that Soze ducks under and follows up with a left that Soze also avoids with ease.
Wong throws a nice inside leg kick.
Wong throws a sloppy head kick and Soze moves out of range easily.
Soze throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Soze throws a combination that misses
letting Wong counter with a right hand.
Wong lands a nice shot that snaps Soze's head back.
Wong misses with a double jab.
Wong falls off balance throwing a combination
and Soze counters with a straight right hand.

and Soze counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Wong wants to stand up but Soze is controlling him.
Soze stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Wong swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Soze drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Soze jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Soze prevents Wong from getting back to his feet.
Soze is looking to work some ground and pound but Wong has wrist control.
Soze wants to pass the guard but Wong is keeping the position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wong goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Soze falls off balance throwing a combination
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Soze thuds his shin into the meat of Wong's side.
Wong throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Soze decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Wong's guard.
Soze wants to control from the top but Wong keeps moving.
Soze looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Wong keeping full guard, as Soze tries to pass.

Soze is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Soze postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Wong is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Soze, into his guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Wong has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Soze is proving hard to escape from.
Soze throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Wong trying to control the position from guard on top but Soze is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wong wants to get up but he can't break Soze's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Wong lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Wong looks to land a body kick but Soze moved away.
Soze shoots for a double leg takedown but Wong sprawls well. He's pushed Soze's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Wong swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Soze avoids a punch combination nicely.

and Soze counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Soze.
Wong wants to break the clinch but can't.
Soze fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Wong has had enough of the clinch but Soze keeps him there for the moment.

Soze tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Soze jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Wong walks away with a smile on his face. Soze gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Soze makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

and Soze counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Soze is keen to just control but Wong is a slippery customer.

Soze seems to be looking for submissions.
Wong is trying to stand.
Wong is breathing heavily.
Soze is looking to advance position but Wong won't allow it.
Soze frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Soze is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Soze throws a lazy right hand but Wong sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

James Wong is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Soze counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Wong!

Soze with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Soze is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Wong has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Wong!
Soze throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Wong wants to lay and pray for a moment but Soze keeps working.

Soze pushes Wong off and gets back to his feet.
Wong's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Wong duly obliges.
Wong takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Wong really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Soze. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Soze slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Soze closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The ground and pound from Soze seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Soze is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Wong knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
James Wong has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
