The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Russell is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Alex's half guard.

Alex kicks Russell off and gets back to his feet.
Russell wants to clinch up but Alex keeps it at a distance.

Russell has closed the distance and engaged Alex in a clinch.

Alex escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Alex rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Russell moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Alex manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Russell on his heels. He'll look to pass Russell's guard now, I'm sure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Russell is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Alex passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Russell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Alex tries to score with some ground and pound. Russell controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Russell is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Alex lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Russell down.
Alex passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Russell!
Alex can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Russell is looking to escape.
Poor strikes thrown by Alex there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Russell is looking to improve his position but Alex isn't that keen on the idea.
