Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Marcelo David!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ben Benton!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Benton goes for a double leg but David avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as David continues to drive forward.
David attempts a counter takedown but Benton avoids it well and moves away.

Benton fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with David, pushing him back against the cage.

Benton jumps guard and drags David to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
David trying to control the position from guard on top but Benton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
David stays in close to Benton's body and controls the position.
David has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Benton is proving hard to escape from.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Benton is pulling down on David's head. It's preventing any offense from David, at least for the moment.

Benton is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

David is fighting to break Benton's control of his arms but Benton is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

David works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Benton throws an elbow that misses. David uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Benton's guard. Nice move by David!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
David with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Benton working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. David doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. David manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as David accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That was a close round but I would say that Marcelo David will probably get the nod.

And David counters with a quick kick to the body but Benton blocks it.

David has Benton pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Benton manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

David stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Benton swivels though and keeps the full guard.
David wants to control from the top but Benton keeps moving.

David knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Benton on the ground.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
David stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and David wants it to stay on the feet.
David takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
David changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

Benton clinches with his opponent.
Benton tries to land knees in the clinch but David avoids the damage to the body.
Benton wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Ben Benton showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

and David counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

David got a little sloppy there for a moment and Benton has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, David has managed to get both his arms back between Benton's legs - danger averted.

Benton is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but David frees his head nicely. Oh but Benton has switched to an armbar! David is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
