PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dywane St Pierre (ranked 5935 p4p, 127 weight class) and Henry Reyes (ranked 25126 p4p, 661 weight class). St Pierre comes to the cage accompanied by Money Team Fyrie. Henry Reyes is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Henry Reyes!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Robert Twigg and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Reyes shoots in for a takedown but St Pierre shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
St Pierre drops down looking for a counter takedown but Reyes sprawls and moves away.

St Pierre shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Reyes is trying to defend but St Pierre finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

St Pierre is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Reyes to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Reyes shrugs it off.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


St Pierre looks for a takedown but Reyes sprawls well.
Reyes throws a big counter head kick but St Pierre avoids it with no problem.

Reyes tries to score a power double leg takedown but St Pierre sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Reyes somewhat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
St Pierre shoots in looking for a takedown. Reyes tries to sprawl out of it but St Pierre keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Reyes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Reyes closes the distance and clinches.
Reyes's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

Let's hope that Reyes has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

St Pierre is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Reyes is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

St Pierre throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

St Pierre is looking for a kimura but Reyes is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for St Pierre to get the leverage.
Reyes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of St Pierre 's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take St Pierre 's back!

You can see the frustration on St Pierre 's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Henry Reyes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

In his post fight interview, Dywane St Pierre started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
