The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gay staying out of range there.
Gay is looking for a counter combo.
Gay avoids a punch combination nicely.
Gay drops down looking for a counter takedown but Velasquez sprawls and moves away.
Gay blocks a head kick by Velasquez.
Gay throws a big counter combination but Velasquez scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Gay closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Velasquez looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Gay tries to clinch but Velasquez moves out of range.
Velasquez lands a jab to Gay's midsection.
Velasquez misses with a jab, cross combination.
Gay went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Some wild striking there from Velasquez.
Velasquez throws the kick towards the body but Gay avoids it.
Gay was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Velasquez looks to land a combination but Gay avoids it well.
It looked like Gay was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Velasquez throws a nice looking combination but Gay bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Velasquez moves into the clinch successfully.
Velasquez wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Gay has him pressed against the cage.
Gay pulls guard effortlessly.
Gay has a closed guard, preventing Velasquez from standing up.
Velasquez stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! Gay throws up his legs and catches Velasquez in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Velasquez tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by Gay! That came out of nowhere!
