PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ian Smith (ranked 1704 p4p, 179 weight class) and Robert Boone (ranked 2018 p4p, 210 weight class). Smith kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap by AC/DC. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Robert Boone enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 18 - 0, fighting out of London, Ian Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 39 - 24 - 0, fighting out of New York, Robert Boone!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boone stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Boone wants it to stay on the feet.
Boone throws an overhand right that lands on Smith's shoulder, as Smith tries to avoid the shot.
We've been informed that Boone has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Boone circles away from the clinch attempt.
Smith tries to close the distance and clinch but Boone swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Boone scores with a jab.
Smith pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Boone back to the cage. Smith follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Smith looks for a takedown but Boone sprawls well.
Smith throws a jab but it's blocked by Boone.
Boone uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Smith.
Boone lands with a thumping leg kick.
Smith scores with a jab. Boone acknowledges it with a nod of the head.
Smith dives in for a single leg takedown but Boone sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ian Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smith throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Boone sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Nice defenses there by Smith.
Boone lands a jab to the nose.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Smith works over Boone's head and body with a nice combination.
Boone throws a series of punches but Smith avoids them all with ease.
Smith shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Boone sprawls well. Boone wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Smith gets slowly back to his feet.

A telegraphed right hand from Boone misses the target.
Smith thuds his right hand into Boone's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Boone blocks a low kick nicely.
Boone misses with an uppercut. Smith saw that one coming.
Smith connects with the punch.
Smith tries to clinch up
and Boone counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Smith looks to throw a body kick
and Boone counters with a nice uppercut.
Smith moves out of range of the strikes.
Smith shoots in but Boone avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Smith keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Boone pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Smith tries to land a front kick but Boone steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Smith throws a jab but it's blocked by Boone.
Boone was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.
Smith looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Boone shoots in and bounces Smith off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Boone showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boone prevents Smith from getting back to his feet.
Boone is looking to work some ground and pound but Smith has wrist control.
Boone lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Smith wants to stand and escape but Boone is having none of it.
Smith working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Boone.
Boone with a nice head shot there.
Smith has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.

Boone with a flurry of punches that miss.
Boone stops Smith from standing up.
Boone is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Boone connects with a couple of short punches.
Smith wants to stand up but Boone is controlling him.
Smith utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Boone throwing strikes but missing.
Smith is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Boone forces his way into half guard.
Smith is trying to stand.
Boone perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Boone seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Smith does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Boone stops Smith from getting back to his feet.
Boone throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Smith pushes Boone off looking to stand but Boone dives back in and keeps control.
Boone thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Smith's head.
Boone winds up and cracks Smith with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Boone stops Smith from getting back to his feet.
Smith is staying active underneath Boone, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Boone lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Boone is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Boone trying to control the action but Smith is working from the bottom.
Boone landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Robert Boone dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Smith looks to land a left hand but Boone moved out of range nicely.
Boone throws a counter combo.
Smith ducks under a wild hook from Boone.
Smith walks into a left hand.
Smith throws a hook but Boone blocks it.
Boone has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Smith avoids the head kick by Boone.
Smith goes for a double leg but Boone avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Boone continues to drive forward.
Smith cracks Boone with a good jab.
Boone fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Boone connects with a single shot there.
A low kick from Smith misses
and Boone counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Smith moves away from the strike by Boone.
Smith darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Smith takes one to the side of the head.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Boone throws a shot from downtown. Smith moves away and avoids it.
Smith tries to counter with a takedown but Boone is quick to defend against it.
A jab lands there for Boone.
Donk. Smith catches Boone right on the button with a cross.

Smith dives in and scores a takedown into Boone's guard.
Smith postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Boone has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Smith doesn't defend quickly enough and Boone has managed to lock this one up! Can Smith escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Boone on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Robert Boone!

Ian Smith was interviewed post fight and said 'I still don't have what it takes. I must train harder.'.
