PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Thali Kaya (ranked 25222 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken Gee (ranked 4953 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 7 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Thali Kaya!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ken Gee!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Dirk Anderson and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kaya ducks under a wild hook from Gee.
It looked like Kaya was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Gee dodges the punch combination from Kaya.
Gee throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kaya.
Kaya throwing a counter right hand but Gee manages to avoid it.
Kaya avoids the body shot from Gee.
A little feinted left hand from Kaya on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Gee throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Gee avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Kaya fails in his attempt to clinch.
Gee throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Kaya sees it coming and avoids it easily.

and Gee connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kaya tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Gee manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Kaya changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gee tries to avoid it but Kaya manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gee to the ground. Gee escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kaya shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Gee as he jumps to the side.

No joy there for Gee, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Kaya went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Kaya shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Kaya closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gee circles away.
Gee misses with a double jab.
Kaya takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Kaya uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gee.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gee cracks Kaya with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Gee is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Kaya had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Kaya is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Gee's half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gee holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

Kaya closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Gee manages to get to full guard.
Kaya has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Gee is proving hard to escape from.
Kaya has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Gee seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gee has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ken Gee showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Kaya shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

enabling Gee to counter with a crisp jab.
Kaya looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Gee circles away from the clinch attempt
and Gee counters with a left to the body.
Kaya takes a shot right to the bread basket.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gee's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Gee duly obliges.

Gee drives through and clinches with Kaya against the cage.
Oh Kaya is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
A short right hand to the side of the head by Gee.
Gee has Kaya pressed against the cage, preventing Kaya from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Gee connects with a nasty looking knee right to Kaya's face.
Gee has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Gee in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Gee has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Let's hope that Gee has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
