PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ronny Rush (ranked 24378 p4p, 0 weight class) and Devin Bronze (ranked 5942 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ronny Rush!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Devin Bronze!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bronze fails to land with a series of punches.
And Rush counters with a quick kick to the body but Bronze blocks it.
Bronze shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rush as he jumps to the side.
Rush half committed to a counter leg kick.
Bronze lands a body shot.
Rush wants to clinch.
Bronze moves in looking to clinch but Rush pushes him off.
Rush looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rush is looking to score with low kicks.

Bronze shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rush manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Rush trying to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rush is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bronze has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Rush is proving hard to escape from.
Rush can't keep his opponent in guard - Bronze advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Still in half guard, Bronze seems content to control.
Rush wants to control but Bronze passes into side.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Rush is trying to get back to half guard.

Bronze decides to stand back up.
Bronze misses with a takedown attempt
and Rush counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Rush throws a leg kick which misses Bronze's front leg but catches the back leg as Bronze tries to avoid it.
Rush throws a solid leg kick but Bronze takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Rush.
Bronze tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Rush tries to clinch but Bronze is having none of it.
Bronze shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Rush but Rush pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Ronny Rush has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Devin Bronze.

Rush blocks the body kick.
Bronze throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Rush stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Rush scores with a nice body kick.
Good work by Bronze as he checks the leg kick.
Bronze fails with a takedown attempt.
Rush keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Devin Bronze seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bronze lands with a nice body kick.

Bronze shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Bronze was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rush is looking for a sweep.
Rush is breathing heavily.
Bronze is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Rush's shoulder. That is not cool.
Bronze lands a few punches from side control.
Bronze cracks Rush with a big right hand but Rush just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Bronze moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Devin Bronze dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Bronze will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Rush could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Bronze lands a jab-cross combination.
Bronze misses with a two punch combination.
Bronze moves out of range of the body kick.

Bronze gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Rush escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Bronze fails with a takedown attempt.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bronze tries to clinch up but Rush circles away and keeps his distance.

Bronze gets a double leg takedown into Rush's guard.
Bronze has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rush is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bronze with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Bronze working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Bronze's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Bronze stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rush swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bronze trying to control the position from guard on top but Rush is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bronze gets to his feet - Rush follows without any prompting.
Rush looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Bronze moves in looking to clinch but Rush pushes him off.
Bronze fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ronny Rush has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Devin Bronze.
Rush is looking to clinch but Bronze is avoiding it.
The fight stays on the outside here - Bronze looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rush looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Bronze drops down looking for an ankle pick but Rush pulls his leg out and moves away.

Bronze jumps guard but Rush stands there with Bronze around his waist. Bronze gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Rush is looking to break free of the clinch but Bronze has double underhooks.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bronze jumps guard but Rush stands there with Bronze around his waist. Bronze gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Bronze escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Bronze. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Rush closes the distance and clinches.
Rush is looking to break free of the clinch but Bronze has double underhooks.
Bronze has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rush after a bit of a struggle.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Bronze is working for takedown but Rush is calmly controlling the position for now.

Rush breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Devin Bronze will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Rush moves into the clinch.
Rush swings wildly with an uppercut but Bronze uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rush wants to break free but Bronze has control.
Bronze tries to work over Rush's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Stalling in the clinch from Rush.
Bronze lands an elbow inside.


It looks like Ronny Rush has been cut.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rush has had enough of the clinch but Bronze keeps him there for the moment.
Bronze has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Rush after a bit of a struggle.

Bronze looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Bronze avoids the head kick by Rush.
Rush tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Bronze tries to counter by closing the distance.
Bronze shoots in and drives through. Rush sprawls well.

Bronze misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
It looked like Rush was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Bronze takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Bronze misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Rush counters with a good, hard body kick but Bronze shrugs it off.
Bronze tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Rush manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Rush feinted there with a counter leg kick.

Rush darts in and clinches Bronze up against the cage.

Bronze keeping moving, preventing Rush from controlling successfully.
Rush seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Rush lands a couple of elbows.

Bronze working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rush doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rush manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Rush missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Rush seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Rush is in close to Bronze's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Rush avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rush controlling from the top position.
Rush trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Bronze manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Rush is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Bronze is aware though and is defending well.
Bronze content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Rush has Bronze pulled in close to control his posture.

Rush is looking for a triangle but Bronze pushes his legs off easily.
Bronze lands a couple of elbows.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rush wants to sweep but no luck.
Ronny Rush has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Devin Bronze is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ronny Rush.
I think Bronze has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
