Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brian Gibbs (ranked 5744 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brent King (ranked 5736 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brian Gibbs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brent King!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

King moves into range and clinches up with Gibbs.
Gibbs goes for a takedown in the clinch but King prevents it.
Gibbs is trying to pull guard but King has him pressed against the cage.

King drags the fight down to the ground.
King keeping moving, preventing Gibbs from controlling successfully.
Gibbs would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
King should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Gibbs trying to move into half guard but instead King has managed to sweep!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
King wants to pass the guard but Gibbs is keeping the position.
Gibbs is trying to control the position from the bottom.
King looking to sit in guard and control but Gibbs gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

King is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
King is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Gibbs is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because King is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
King is trying to control. Gibbs wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

and King counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by King.

King successfully pulls guard.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - King has eaten all the pies!
Gibbs wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Gibbs is now in half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brent King dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Gibbs tries to clinch but King is having none of it.
Gibbs tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. King manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gibbs throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Gibbs shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts King as he jumps to the side.
King looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
King defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gibbs.
King keeps the fight on the outside.

King decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

King is working for a kimura but Gibbs is defending it quite comfortably.

King is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Gibbs is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of King's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take King's back!
King is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Brent King has got the better of the ground game so far.
Gibbs avoiding King 's attempts to control his hands.
King has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Gibbs is looking for the choke from the back position but King is controlling his hands well.
King tries to escape the position.
Gibbs doesn't have the hooks in and King manages to turn into his guard.

King drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gibbs manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now King has Gibbs in his guard.

Gibbs will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Gibbs seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if King can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gibbs postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

King is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

King goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Gibbs has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for King but great work by Gibbs.

Gibbs's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

King avoids a series of strikes thrown by Gibbs.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brian Gibbs.
I think Gibbs has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
