Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Julius Asug (ranked 8408 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conner Oriley (ranked 9284 p4p, 0 weight class). Asug comes to the cage accompanied by Star Boy. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Julius Asug!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Conner Oriley!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Dirk Anderson and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oriley lets loose with a powerful body kick. Asug will feel that in the morning.
Asug misses with a double jab.
Oriley misses with a takedown attempt - Asug sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Asug steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Oriley. That one must have hurt.
Asug takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Good shot there by Oriley.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Asug counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Oriley!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Asug tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Asug creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Oriley seems a little lost for a moment, as Asug dominates the positioning.
Oriley tries to bench press Asug off him but Asug keeps the position.
Asug is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Oriley will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Oriley is looking to regain half guard here but Asug keeps moving and retains side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Oriley takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Asug looking to control but instead Oriley has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Asug is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Asug is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Oriley reverses the position - he's now on top in Asug's guard.
Oriley throws a big right hand that misses.

Oriley drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Asug dives on top into guard.

Oriley is trying to get back to full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Asug throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Asug knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Oriley on the ground.

A close round but Conner Oriley will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Oriley's coach down at Island Safe Space was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Oriley's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Asug changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

and Oriley counters with a three punch combo that has Asug backing up. Asug nods at Oriley to acknowledge the strikes.

Asug has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Oriley.

Asug has closed the distance and engaged Oriley in a clinch.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Oriley has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Asug drops down looking for an ankle pick but Oriley pulls his leg out and moves away.
Oriley throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Asug stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Oriley comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Oriley paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Oriley wants to clinch up but Asug keeps it at a distance.
Asug looked to counter that last move with a leg kick but didn't pull the trigger.

Oriley tries a head kick but it misses.
It looked like Asug was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Oriley tries to keep at a distance but Asug has taken the fight into the clinch.
Asug goes for a takedown attempt but Oriley pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Oriley fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Asug on the side of the head.

Asug shoots in and gets a takedown into Oriley's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Asug with a flurry of punches that miss.

Asug postures up in Oriley's guard and throws a big left but Oriley blocks it.

Julius Asug overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Asug is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Oriley closes the distance but Asug moves to the side

and Asug counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Asug.
Asug wants to stand but Oriley has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Conner Oriley showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Asug swings around for an armbar but Oriley sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Asug's guard.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Oriley accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Julius Asug.
I think Oriley has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
