PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rufus Lopez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Lopez might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Party up in here - DMX. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones loads up on a big right hand but Lopez slips the punch.

Jones instigates a clinch.

Jones pulls guard.

Jones throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Lopez thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Lopez stands up and waves to Jones to follow him.
Jones lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

It looks like Rufus Lopez has been cut.
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lopez as he jumps to the side.
Jones dips to his left and cracks Lopez with an uppercut!
Jones throws a looping overhand right but Lopez ducks down to avoid it.

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Lopez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jones doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jones manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Jones stays in close to Lopez's body and controls the position.
Jones wants to control from the top but Lopez keeps moving.

Jones gets to his feet. Lopez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Lopez has his takedown stuffed
and Jones cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Jones throws a lazy right hand but Lopez sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

and Jones counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Lopez!

Jones moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Lopez has worked his arm free - good work by Lopez!

Lopez is looking to improve his position but Jones isn't that keen on the idea.

Jones quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Jones but it's paid off an Lopez is forced to tap! Nice work by Jones.
