Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cool McCold!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Guto Groos!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Fujiwara and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCold connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Groos decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Groos is working for a submission of some sort.

Groos is trying to work for a kimura but McCold is defending well.
Groos looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Groos is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Groos is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, McCold has managed to free his arm - good work.
McCold is looking to control Groos's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can McCold avoid being mounted?

Groos wants to free his trapped foot but McCold is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Groos is looking for a kimura here.
McCold is trying to control but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Groos is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. McCold doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Groos.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Groos is working for a submission of some sort.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
McCold gets full guard.
Groos looking to pass the guard.
McCold is trying to control the position from the bottom.
McCold will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Groos is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Groos postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McCold is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Groos, into his guard.

McCold wants to control from the top but Groos keeps moving.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Groos looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Groos has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but McCold can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Groos is not content to let McCold control the position.

McCold is tying to control. Groos wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Guto Groos dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


McCold lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
McCold misses with a few strikes there.
A jab from McCold finds it's way through Groos's defenses.
Cool McCold seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Groos closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Groos tries to advance to mount but McCold denies him.

Groos looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
McCold is looking to regain half guard here but Groos keeps moving and retains side control.

Groos is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, McCold has escaped the position, nice work there.

You can see the frustration on McCold's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McCold is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.

Groos wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McCold, who protects the arm well.

Groos goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, McCold rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Groos's guard! Nice work there by McCold!

Groos has an active guard here but McCold has managed to pass into half guard.
McCold knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Groos on the ground.
Groos is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Groos looking for submissions off his back.
Groos is pressing down on McCold's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Groos is not content to let McCold control the position.

Groos moves into full guard.
Groos lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for McCold!
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Groos. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Groos looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

Groos is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! McCold is forced to tap! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Guto Groos!
