PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Donald Markham (ranked 4447 p4p, 455 weight class) and Blaine Callaghan (ranked 3304 p4p, 362 weight class). Callaghan has chosen The Foggy Dew as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Donald Markham could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Blaine Callaghan's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Donald Markham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Blaine Callaghan!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Markham shoots in for a takedown but Callaghan shows good takedown defense.
Markham gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Callaghan counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Markham motions for Callaghan to come forward. Markham throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Callaghan throws the kick towards the body but Markham avoids it.
A big right from Callaghan misses.
Markham appears to be looking for a big counter.
Markham misses with a jab, cross combination.
Callaghan throws a counter combo.

Markham drives through with a takedown into Callaghan's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Markham wants to control from the top but Callaghan keeps moving.
Callaghan wants to get back to his feet but Markham is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Markham scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Callaghan is looking to stand up but Markham isn't so interested in that idea.

Markham gets to his feet - Callaghan follows without any prompting.
Markham shoots in but Callaghan avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Donald Markham. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Callaghan throws a right hand that Markham ducks under and follows up with a left that Markham also avoids with ease.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Markham shoots in looking for a takedown. Callaghan tries to sprawl out of it but Markham keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Callaghan manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck for Markham with that takedown attempt.
Callaghan throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Markham.
Markham misses with a takedown
and Callaghan counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Markham wants to clinch.

Callaghan moves forwards but Markham connects with a nice, crisp jab.

Markham shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Callaghan's guard.
Callaghan wants to stand up but Markham is controlling him.

Markham drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Callaghan manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Markham has Callaghan in his guard.

Markham is trying to keep Callaghan in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Callaghan wanted to stand there but Markham had control of the position.
Callaghan preventing the sweep.
Callaghan would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Markham striking off his back but it's not causing Callaghan any problems.
Callaghan wants to stand but Markham has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Markham not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Callaghan leaves Markham with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
It seemed like Callaghan was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Blaine Callaghan dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Callaghan stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Callaghan wants it to stay on the feet.
Markham has his takedown stuffed
and Callaghan counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Markham is looking to clinch but Callaghan is avoiding it.
Markham shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Callaghan defends it nicely.
Callaghan steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Donald Markham. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Markham throws a series of punches but Callaghan avoids them all with ease.
Callaghan throws a shot from downtown. Markham moves away and avoids it.
Markham with a lazy takedown attempt
and Callaghan connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Markham dives in and grabs Callaghan's left leg, looking for a takedown. Callaghan pushes down on Markham's head and hops out.
Callaghan has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Markham doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Markham takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.


Markham is rocked!
Callaghan drops Markham with a straight left! Oh this is bad for Markham! Callaghan dives in and starts dropping bombs - the referee has no choice but to step in and save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Blaine Callaghan!
Blaine Callaghan decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
