PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between S B Marksman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and rocky boxxer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, S B Marksman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, rocky boxxer!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Chad Campbell and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marksman tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but boxxer swivels and escapes.
Marksman shoots for a takedown but boxxer saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Marksman counters with a nice double leg into guard.

boxxer uses the ropes to get back to his feet.

boxxer closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Marksman manages to get to full guard.
Marksman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. boxxer manages to get himself to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
boxxer has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Marksman is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! boxxer is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! boxxer has escaped and now he's on top!
boxxer trying to control the position from guard on top but Marksman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
boxxer must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
boxxer wanted to stand there but Marksman had control of the position.

Marksman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. boxxer doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. boxxer manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Marksman is breathing heavily.
boxxer is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
boxxer looking to sit in guard and control but Marksman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
boxxer pulls Marksman in close to prevent any damage.
Marksman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
boxxer has control of Marksman's left arm, preventing Marksman from doing any damage.
boxxer trying to keep a closed guard but Marksman is proving a slippery customer.

Marksman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but boxxer manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Marksman has boxxer in his guard.
boxxer really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Marksman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
boxxer is pushing down on Marksman's leg trying to pass to half guard. Marksman is fighting to maintain full guard but boxxer has managed to sneak the leg through.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that S B Marksman will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

and boxxer counters with a shoot takedown. Marksman fights it but they end up in guard.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
boxxer's corner is telling him to maintain position.

boxxer wants to pass the guard but Marksman is keeping the position.
boxxer slips nicely into half guard.
boxxer seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
boxxer is pressing down on Marksman's thigh, looking to free his foot. Marksman is holding on for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
boxxer looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Despite being in the dominant position, rocky boxxer just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
A thudding body kick lands there by boxxer!
boxxer tries to clinch up

and Marksman counters with a single leg into guard. boxxer didn't expect that.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
boxxer lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Marksman!
Marksman really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Marksman is working hard here to advance position.
boxxer raining down shots from the mount!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
boxxer looking to control and managing it successfully.
rocky boxxer has got the better of the ground game so far.
boxxer putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

rocky boxxer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



boxxer shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. boxxer showed some decent athleticism there.

Marksman tries to get to full guard but boxxer has control of the leg.
boxxer perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
boxxer tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Marksman.

boxxer wants to work for an arm triangle but Marksman is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
boxxer passes to side control.

boxxer decides to take the fight back to the feet.
boxxer swinging wilding here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
boxxer misses with a few strikes there.

boxxer shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. boxxer showed some decent athleticism there.
Marksman tries to get to full guard but boxxer has control of the leg.

boxxer trying to control the pace.
Marksman is trying to get back to full guard.
boxxer slows the pace down in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

boxxer seems to be looking for submissions.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
boxxer prevents Marksman from improving his position.

And that's the end of the fight!
rocky boxxer comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well boxxer has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
