PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maximo Owen (ranked 7605 p4p, 0 weight class) and Que Jackman (ranked 6923 p4p, 0 weight class). Jackman has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Que Jackman will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Que Jackman!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and George Francis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jackman decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Owen controlling the position well.
Owen tries to kick Jackman off but Jackman keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Owen moves into full guard.
Owen managing to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Owen throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Owen pushes Jackman off and gets back to his feet.
Jackman doesn't manage to clinch there - Owen circles away.
Jackman looks winded!
Jackman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Owen paws at him with a jab and circles away.
It looked like Owen wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.

Jackman gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Owen to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Owen stands up from Jackman's guard - Owen perhaps looking for a knockout.
Owen keeps the fight on the outside.
Owen was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Owen moves into the clinch successfully.
Owen could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Owen has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Jackman uses from the top position.
Owen is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Owen holds on and takes a little breather.

Owen escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jackman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Owen has control of Jackman's left arm, preventing Jackman from doing any damage.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Owen avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Owen closes the distance and clinches.

Owen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jackman.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

What can Jackman do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jackman is breathing heavily.

Owen has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Owen's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Owen.
Maximo Owen overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Owen seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Jackman for as long as he can get away with.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Owen tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Jackman throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
An attempted straight right counter from Owen misses the target.
Jackman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Owen's waist but Owen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jackman off to one side.

Owen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Owen has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Jackman has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Maximo Owen.
Jackman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Owen as he jumps to the side.

Owen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jackman's guard.

Owen stands and steps away. Jackman gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Owen gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Jackman scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Owen manages to mount him!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Owen controlling from the full mount.
Jackman is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Owen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Well Owen has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
