Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vlad Halen (ranked 3251 p4p, 404 weight class) and Alexander Gustafson (ranked 3217 p4p, 399 weight class). Alexander Gustafson has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Vlad Halen's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vlad Halen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alexander Gustafson!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Arvi Lind and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gustafson lands with a cross.
Halen looks to score with a jab to the body but Gustafson is just out of range.
Halen misses with a series of wild punches.
Gustafson shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Halen slips a jab and a cross from Gustafson.
Sloppy strikes from Gustafson. Those never looked like landing.
Halen throws a wild body kick that Gustafson sees coming a mile off.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Gustafson checks a leg kick.
Gustafson is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Gustafson throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Gustafson lands a nice shot that snaps Halen's head back.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gustafson has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Gustafson lands with an uppercut that bounces Halen off the cage and back into range.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Halen throws a hook but Gustafson avoids it easily.
Gustafson fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
We've been told by Halen's head coaches at Destroyer MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
A bone on bone clash there as Gustafson blocks the leg kick.
Gustafson tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Gustafson looks to throw the jab but Halen is out of range.
Gustafson takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Halen tries to clinch up but Gustafson circles away and keeps his distance.
Halen throws a looping overhand right but Gustafson ducks down to avoid it.
Gustafson throws a jab but it's blocked by Halen.
Gustafson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Halen went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

and Gustafson counters with a takedown into side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Gustafson tries to advance to mount but can't.
Gustafson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Halen is looking for a sweep.

Gustafson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Halen knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Halen is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Halen is in trouble now - Gustafson has advanced to mount!
Halen manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Halen is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gustafson pulls his head out easily.

Gustafson is looking for a kimura but Halen is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Gustafson to get the leverage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexander Gustafson dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Halen throws a right hand that Gustafson ducks under and follows up with a left that Gustafson also avoids with ease.

Gustafson tries to bum rush Halen with a series of wild strikes but Halen uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

A looping hook to the body misses from Halen. Gustafson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Halen misses with a two punch combination.
Gustafson tries to bum rush Halen with a series of wild strikes but Halen uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Halen doesn't manage to clinch there - Gustafson circles away.
Vlad Halen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Halen tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Halen closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Halen pushes off an throws an elbow but Gustafson leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.

Halen's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Gustafson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Gustafson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gustafson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Halen lands a couple of decent looking body shots there.
Gustafson forces his way into half guard.

Halen is refusing to be controlled, as Gustafson sits in half guard.
Gustafson frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Gustafson goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Halen turns into him and now he's in Gustafson's guard.

Gustafson is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Halen rolls with it to try and escape but Gustafson cranks on the arm and Halen is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Alexander Gustafson!
After winning the bout, Alexander Gustafson thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
