Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Peter Dixon!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Wilson Torres!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Columbo Gatti and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dixon doesn't manage to clinch there - Torres circles away.
Torres throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Dixon moves into the clinch.
Dixon crunches a lovely knee into Torres's ribcage.
Dixon drags the fight down to the ground.
Torres throwing strikes but missing.
Torres stopping the sweep attempt from Dixon.
Dixon is trying to keep Torres in close.
Dixon keeping moving, preventing Torres from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Dixon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Torres is one step ahead there.
Torres wants to control from the top but Dixon keeps moving.
Torres trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Dixon is looking to clinch.
Torres jabbing away but nothing is landing.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Dixon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Torres works the jab nicely.
It looks like Peter Dixon has been cut.
Dixon shoots in looking for a takedown. Torres tries to sprawl out of it but Dixon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Torres manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Dixon walks into a left hand.
Torres throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Torres throws out a loose jab but Dixon uses good head movement to avoid it.
Torres rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dixon moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Dixon bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Torres lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Dixon forces Torres back against the cage and clinches.
Dixon keeps control of Torres as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Dixon breaks the clinch.
Torres fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Dixon to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Dixon looks to clinch but Torres throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Dixon taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Wilson Torres!
