PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Damian Anderson (ranked 2752 p4p, 320 weight class) and Teabwana Jienk (ranked 3249 p4p, 370 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Teabwana Jienk was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Damian Anderson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Teabwana Jienk!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anderson takes a swing at Jienk's ribcage but misses.
Jienk has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Anderson is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Anderson misses the body punch

and Jienk counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Jienk.
Jienk works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Jienk moves nicely into side control.
Anderson is looking to regain half guard here but Jienk keeps moving and retains side control.
Jienk in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Anderson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Anderson tries to get out of the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jienk content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
What's Anderson going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.

It looks like Jienk might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Anderson is not content to let Jienk control the position.

Jienk tries for a kimura but Anderson is defending well.
Anderson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jienk wants to control but Anderson is keeping him busy.

Jienk wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Anderson, who protects the arm well.
Jienk is looking to take a break and control but Anderson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
You can see the frustration on Anderson's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Teabwana Jienk dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Anderson looks to score with a jab to the body but Jienk is just out of range.
Anderson throws a body punch but Jienk moves out of range.
Jienk feints the counter takedown.
Jienk shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Anderson as he jumps to the side.
Jienk keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Anderson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jienk.
Jienk is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Anderson throws a lazy right hand but Jienk sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Jienk changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Damian Anderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Anderson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

and Jienk counters with a single leg into guard. Anderson didn't expect that.
Jienk controls from within his opponent's guard.

Jienk slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Jienk tries for a kimura but Anderson is defending well.
Jienk wants to lay and pray for a moment but Anderson keeps working.
Jienk moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Let's hope that Jienk has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Anderson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Anderson stops Jienk from passing to mount.

Jienk in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Jienk in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Jienk looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Jienk tries to move into full mount but can't pass Anderson's legs.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jienk sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Anderson is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Jienk trying to control the action but Anderson is working from the bottom.
Anderson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jienk wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Anderson gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Anderson is trying to escape the mount but Jienk keeps good control and instead manages to take Anderson's back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Teabwana Jienk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Anderson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Jienk moves away.
Jienk fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jienk shoots for a takedown but Anderson saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Anderson swings for the body but Jienk moves out of range.
Jienk on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Jienk will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Damian Anderson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Teabwana Jienk.

and Jienk counters with a nice double leg into side control. Anderson won't be happy with that.
Anderson is not content to let Jienk control the position.

Jienk has knee on belly and moves into mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jienk trying to control but Anderson is having none of it.

Jienk is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Anderson has managed to escape the submission attempt.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jienk trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Damian Anderson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Jienk jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Anderson manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Jienk advances to full mount.
Jienk wants to control the pace but Anderson is squirming around nicely.
Jienk has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Jienk has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Anderson is forced to tap!
