PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Pipi Manu (ranked 2933 p4p, 343 weight class) and David DeCastro (ranked 3347 p4p, 378 weight class). Manu's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, 'We dont like Cricket'. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Pipi Manu!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, David DeCastro!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Sandra Marshall and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manu misses with a lunging right hand
letting DeCastro counter with a right hand.
Manu throws a lazy uppercut
and DeCastro cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Manu tries to close the distance and clinch up but DeCastro swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Manu walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
DeCastro dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
DeCastro throws out a loose jab but Manu uses good head movement to avoid it.

Manu instigates a clinch.
DeCastro tries to break the clinch but Manu is controlling the position.
A frustrated look appears on DeCastro's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Manu drops down looking for an ankle pick but DeCastro pulls his leg out and moves away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
DeCastro connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Manu is looking to clinch but DeCastro is avoiding it.
It seemed like DeCastro was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Manu fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. DeCastro sprawls well initially but Manu persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Manu seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

DeCastro manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Manu keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
DeCastro tries to circle away but Manu has him pinned against the cage.
Manu is looking for a takedown up against the cage. DeCastro gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
DeCastro wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Manu has him pressed against the cage.

Manu gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if DeCastro can do anything to dispel that myth.
DeCastro is trying to stand up here but Manu is controlling him well.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Manu in particular looking to stall.
DeCastro tries to kick Manu off but Manu keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Manu is controlling the pace.
Manu has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
DeCastro wants to get back to his feet.
Manu looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Well, if Manu is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Manu is nestled in close to DeCastro, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Manu frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Manu lands a couple of good shots and DeCastro has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.
Manu connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for DeCastro to escape the position.
Will Manu go for the finish here or will he try and keep control of the position?
Manu has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
DeCastro covers up after taking a massive shot to the side of the head.
What can DeCastro do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

DeCastro defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Manu's arms.
Manu is looking to control DeCastro but DeCastro is wriggling around and keeping busy.

DeCastro is trying to get back to his feet but Manu has full control of the position and if anything, DeCastro has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Manu is landing with strikes. DeCastro can't take much more of this.
DeCastro really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Manu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Manu is punishing DeCastro with some ground and pound.
What can DeCastro do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!
Manu lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns DeCastro.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Manu is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Manu gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Manu gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Manu apologises and we restart here on the feet.

and DeCastro counters with a left and a right that stings Manu.
Manu looks for a takedown but DeCastro sprawls well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Pipi Manu dominated that round.
That's time! Manu's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


DeCastro throws a body shot but no joy.
A jab from DeCastro misses.
Manu attempts a counter takedown but DeCastro avoids it well and moves away.
DeCastro has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
DeCastro lands with an overhand left.
Manu wants to clinch but DeCastro slips to the side
letting DeCastro counter with a right hand.

Manu rushes DeCastro and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
DeCastro is pressed up against the cage. Manu has hold of a leg and is looking to drag DeCastro down to the mat. DeCastro avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
DeCastro is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
DeCastro throws a good cross that connects.

Manu is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in DeCastro's half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Manu lands a nice short elbow.
Manu scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
DeCastro is trying to stand back up but Manu is controlling him
Manu looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Manu seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but DeCastro does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Manu is taking a breather. DeCastro says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Manu winds up and cracks DeCastro with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Manu is looking to take a break and control but DeCastro is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Manu is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Manu is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for DeCastro!

Manu jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but DeCastro manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Manu is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down DeCastro's shoulder. That is not cool.

Manu works to advance to full mount. DeCastro defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Manu lands a nice shot to the head.
DeCastro is trying to stand up.

DeCastro let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
DeCastro has tried to improve his agility in the runup to this fight.
Manu shoots for a double leg takedown but DeCastro sprawls well. He's pushed Manu's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
A nice side step and DeCastro releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.

and DeCastro counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
DeCastro moves out of range of the strikes.
DeCastro looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Manu misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Pipi Manu. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and DeCastro connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Manu lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.
DeCastro lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Manu circles away quickly and effectively.
Manu swung with a counter punch to the body but it didn't connect.

DeCastro keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
A combination from DeCastro does no damage.
Pipi Manu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Manu clinches with his opponent.

Manu breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
David DeCastro seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Manu doesn't manage to clinch there - DeCastro circles away.
DeCastro scores with a one two! Manu had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Manu misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
DeCastro dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

A jab from DeCastro finds it's way through Manu's defenses.
David DeCastro is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
DeCastro throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Manu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. DeCastro tries to avoid it but Manu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag DeCastro to the ground. DeCastro escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
DeCastro sizes up Manu with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.


Manu is rocked!
DeCastro dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Oh Manu is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
DeCastro connects with a stiff jab that staggers Manu - oh and he follows up with a huge uppercut that knocks him out cold! Man, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). David DeCastro!
David DeCastro is the new welterweight champion!
An out of breath David DeCastro thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
