PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Raul Ewing (ranked 25525 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Allen (ranked 7307 p4p, 642 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Raul Ewing!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Allen!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ewing takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.


It looks like Raul Ewing has been cut.
Ewing on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Allen shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Ewing has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Allen is on him like a limpet, forcing Ewing back against the cage.

Allen tightens his grip and picks Ewing up, before dumping him to the ground. Ewing manages to land in guard.
Ewing wants to get back to his feet but Allen passes into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Allen in particular looking to stall.

Allen passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Ewing!

Ewing might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Ewing tries to control Allen's body but Allen pushes him off. Ewing squirms to his side and now Allen has his back!

Allen is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Ewing is defending well though. Allen let's go of the attempt for now.
Ewing just trying to survive but Allen is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Allen is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

Allen just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Allen doesn't have the hooks in and Ewing manages to turn into his guard.
Allen has momentary wrist control but Ewing slips an elbow through the middle.

Allen throws his legs up looking for a submission but Ewing uses it to pass to side control.

Allen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ewing is working away from the top position though.

Allen is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Ewing's half guard.

Allen gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Ewing regains guard.

Allen closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Ewing to the mat! Ewing manages to get full guard.

Allen tests Ewing's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Ewing checks the leg kick nicely there.
It looked like Ewing was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Ewing tries to keep at a distance but Allen has taken the fight into the clinch.

Allen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Allen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Allen throws a right hand that Ewing ducks under and follows up with a left that Ewing also avoids with ease.
Ewing dives in and grabs Allen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Allen pushes down on Ewing's head and hops out.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

James Allen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Allen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ewing was covering up waiting for the punch and Allen finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Ewing has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Allen has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Allen manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ewing on his heels. He'll look to pass Ewing's guard now, I'm sure.

Allen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Allen showed some decent athleticism there.
Allen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Ewing won't allow Allen to pass to mount.
Ewing misses with some strikes from the bottom.

Allen is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ewing pushes Allen off looking to stand but Allen dives back in and keeps control.

Allen seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ewing does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Allen fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Ewing to the ground. Allen is now in Ewing's guard.

Ewing has his foot on Allen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Allen works his way back into a safe position though.

Allen stops Ewing from getting back to his feet.

Allen is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Ewing!
Allen unloads with some shots from mount but Ewing bucks and avoids them well.
Ewing is wriggling around trying to escape.
Allen takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Allen looking to ground and pound but Ewing is blocking nicely.

Allen goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Ewing is on top in guard.
Raul Ewing has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
James Allen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Ewing is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Allen is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Allen has escaped and now he's on top!

James Allen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Allen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
