PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justin Larsen (ranked 25109 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juro Kallaway (ranked 6205 p4p, 582 weight class). Juro Kallaway will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justin Larsen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Juro Kallaway!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Larsen tries a head kick but it misses.
A leg kick checked by Larsen.
Larsen slips a jab and a cross from Kallaway.

Kallaway pushes Larsen off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Kallaway throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Kallaway gets caught napping as Larsen dives in and scores a takedown. Kallaway manages to retain guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kallaway isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Larsen stacks Kallaway on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Larsen!

Larsen tries to score with some ground and pound. Kallaway controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

Larsen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Kallaway is trying to get back to half guard.
Kallaway is pushing Larsen's head away, looking to escape. Larsen manages to hold on to the position though.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Larsen throws a head kick but Kallaway moves out of range.

Kallaway fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Larsen sprawls well initially but Kallaway persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Kallaway closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kallaway lands in his opponent's guard.
Kallaway working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Larsen throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Larsen is on top in guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Larsen is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Larsen accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Larsen stands up over Kallaway, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Kallaway has momentary wrist control but Larsen slips an elbow through the middle.
Larsen stays in close to Kallaway's body and controls the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Larsen wants to control from the top but Kallaway keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Larsen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kallaway pinned against the cage. Kallaway gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Kallaway moves into the clinch.
Kallaway stops a takedown attempt from Larsen.
Larsen changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Kallaway fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justin Larsen. That's going to take a lot out of him.

and Kallaway counters with a three punch combo that has Larsen backing up. Larsen nods at Kallaway to acknowledge the strikes.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kallaway.

Kallaway shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Kallaway stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Larsen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juro Kallaway showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Kallaway checks a leg kick.

Kallaway pushes Larsen up against the cage in a clinch.
Kallaway looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Kallaway drags the fight down to the ground.
Larsen throws a strike but Kallaway rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Larsen controls Kallaway momentarily but Kallaway frees himself.

Kallaway has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Larsen is proving hard to escape from.

Larsen has his foot on Kallaway's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kallaway works his way back into a safe position though.

Larsen is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Larsen is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Larsen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kallaway doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kallaway manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Larsen can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kallaway controls the pace.

Kallaway must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Kallaway is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Larsen cracks Kallaway with a big right hand but Kallaway just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

And that's the end of the fight!
Justin Larsen showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Larsen has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
