PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Taz McKane (ranked 1316 p4p, 177 weight class) and Finn Calvero (ranked 3108 p4p, 369 weight class). Calvero has chosen I'm a Gnome as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Finn Calvero enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Taz McKane!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Finn Calvero!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Matheus Silva and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McKane cracks Calvero with a good jab.


It looks like Finn Calvero has been cut.
Calvero has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
McKane's corner calls for a 1-2. McKane obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
McKane paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Calvero throws an ugly left hook that misses
and McKane counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Calvero wants to clinch but McKane slips to the side
and McKane counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
McKane scores with a jab to the head.
McKane throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Calvero closes the distance looking to clinch
letting McKane counter with a right hand.
Calvero moves into range and connects with a jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Calvero doesn't manage to clinch there - McKane circles away.
McKane loads up on a big right hand but Calvero slips the punch.
McKane misses with a straight right.
Calvero keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from McKane.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Calvero! But no joy.
Calvero throws a lazy uppercut
and McKane counters with a straight right hand.
Calvero is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The fighters circling - Calvero throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
McKane was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Calvero uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from McKane.
Nice shot by McKane.
McKane lands with a shot to the body.
It looks like McKane has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.
Calvero tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. McKane manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Calvero throws a hook but McKane avoids it easily.
McKane takes a swing at Calvero's ribcage but misses.
McKane moves away from the strike by Calvero.
McKane getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Calvero throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Calvero on the wrong end of a nice jab.


Calvero is rocked!
McKane is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Calvero throws a left and a right that both miss
and McKane makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Calvero is still on wobbly legs! Can McKane finish him?
Calvero gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! McKane points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Calvero wakes up just in time to hear McKane thank his coaches in the post fight interview.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:51 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Taz McKane!
Taz McKane retains his welterweight title!
After the fight, Taz McKane was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
