Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Yuri Loel (ranked 1573 p4p, 206 weight class) and Johannes Maanpohja (ranked 5167 p4p, 554 weight class). Loel comes to the cage accompanied by Bush - Glycerine. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Yuri Loel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 35 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Johannes Maanpohja!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Dillan Fox and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maanpohja tries for a takedown but Loel sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Maanpohja shoots in for a double leg but Loel sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Maanpohja has his takedown stuffed
and Loel counters with a two punch combo.
Yuri Loel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johannes Maanpohja.
Maanpohja shoots in looking for a takedown. Loel tries to sprawl out of it but Maanpohja keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Loel manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Loel lands the left hand.
Loel with a nice cross.
Maanpohja changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Loel tries to avoid it but Maanpohja manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Loel to the ground. Loel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Loel connects with the punch.
Maanpohja tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Loel swivels and escapes.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Loel enables Maanpohja to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Loel manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Maanpohja wants to pass the guard but Loel is keeping the position.

Loel kicks Maanpohja off and gets to his feet.
Maanpohja fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Loel avoids it really well and circles away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Loel lands the left hand.
We've been told by Loel's head coaches at Lovelair Muay Thai/MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Loel ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Maanpohja closes this distance looking for a takedown but Loel circles away.
Loel swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Loel thuds a left hand into Maanpohja's body.

Maanpohja manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Loel on his heels. He'll look to pass Loel's guard now, I'm sure.
Maanpohja looks winded!

Loel is looking for a triangle but Maanpohja pushes his legs off easily.
Loel is adopting a defensive guard.
Maanpohja lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Loel controlling Maanpohja's posture.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Loel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maanpohja gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Loel scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Loel throws a series of punches but Maanpohja avoids them all with ease.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Maanpohja is defended easily by Loel.
An attempted straight right counter from Loel misses the target.
Loel stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Loel wants it to stay on the feet.
Maanpohja displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Loel throws out the jab.
Maanpohja walks into a left hand.
Loel scores with a jab to the jaw.
Johannes Maanpohja seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
No luck for Maanpohja with that takedown attempt.
Loel scores with a spinning back kick!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Loel cracks Maanpohja with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Maanpohja looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Loel finish him?


Maanpohja is rocked!
Loel knocks out Maanpohja with a massive right hand! The ref tackles Loel before he can follow up with any more strikes and that's it everyone. Loel picks up the big W with a huge KO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:14 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Yuri Loel!
