PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Igoramma Estionilita (ranked 4126 p4p, 200 weight class) and Kyoji Kubota (ranked 9340 p4p, 325 weight class). Kubota has chosen Sweet Inspiration by Hiroshi Satoh as his entrance music. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Igoramma Estionilita!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kyoji Kubota!
The judges for this bout are Francis DeMontford, Skip Squint and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Estionilita is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Kubota blocks a head kick by Estionilita.
Estionilita throws a one two combo.
Estionilita looks to land a left hand but Kubota moved out of range nicely.
And Kubota tries to counter it with a takedown but Estionilita pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Estionilita misses with a series of wild punches.

Kubota throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Estionilita was covering up waiting for the punch and Kubota finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Kubota keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Estionilita's head.

Estionilita escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kubota gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kubota has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kubota is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Kubota decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Estionilita, up you get!
Estionilita really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Estionilita throws a sloppy head kick and Kubota moves out of range easily.

Kubota is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Estionilita tries to bum rush Kubota with a series of wild strikes but Kubota uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Kubota tries to counter with a clinch but Estionilita shakes him off and moves away.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

and Kubota counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Estionilita has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Kubota has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Estionilita can't break the clinch.

Kubota fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Estionilita to the ground. Kubota is now in Estionilita's guard.
Kubota is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

My spies in Zen Balance Monastery inform me that Kubota has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!
Estionilita not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Kubota slips nicely into half guard.

Estionilita knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kubota on the ground.

Kubota is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kubota lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Kubota is figuring out what he wants to do next.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Estionilita tries to kick Kubota off but Kubota keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Estionilita on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Kubota not doing much here.
Estionilita is looking to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kubota gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Kubota fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Igoramma Estionilita will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Estionilita throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Estionilita looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Kubota fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Kubota is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Kyoji Kubota has got the better of the ground game so far.

Estionilita looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Estionilita is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kubota is controlling him.

Estionilita has momentary wrist control but Kubota slips an elbow through the middle.

Kubota stands and throws Estionilita's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Kubota stands up and beckons Estionilita to his feet.
Estionilita throws a sloppy head kick and Kubota moves out of range easily.
Igoramma Estionilita seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Estionilita misses with a two punch combination.

Kubota changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Estionilita looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Estionilita bucks up and tries to throw Kubota off but instead Kubota has got his back!

This has been an exciting period of action!
Estionilita can't escape the position.

Kubota is working the back position looking for the choke. Oh, he's slid into an armbar! Beautiful transition and Estionilita taps out! Fantastic Jiu Jitsu from Kubota.
