PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Irvin Reed (ranked 8157 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Wilson (ranked 8667 p4p, 0 weight class). Wilson has chosen Blur - Song 2 as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Irvin Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James Wilson!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wilson shoots in for a double leg but Reed sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Wilson's coach down at was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Wilson's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Wilson feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Reeds jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Wilson darts in and clinches Reed up against the cage.

Wilson breaks from the clinch.
Reed looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wilson is fending him off so far but Reed persists. Nope, Wilson circles away and we're back to standing.
Reed shoots in looking for a takedown but Wilson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Reed's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Wilson lands the left hand.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wilson leaves Reed with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
A nice side step and Wilson releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Irvin Reed. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Wilson.
Wilson scores with a jab to the jaw.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Reed shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Wilson pinned against the cage. Wilson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Wilson throws out a counter right but Reed avoids it with no problem.
Reed slaps away a takedown attempt from Wilson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Wilson connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Wilson scores with the left hand. Reed knows he should have avoided that one.
Wilson thows a left - swing and a miss!
Reed appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wilson moves in looking to clinch but Reed pushes him off.
Wilson lets loose with a powerful body kick. Reed will feel that in the morning.
Wilson misses with a takedown

and Reed counters by clinching up.
Reed has Wilson pressed against the cage.
Wilson gets underhooks to prevent Reed's takedown attempt.
Wilson is trying to pull guard but Reed turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Reed dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Wilson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nice sprawl there from Wilson as Reed shoots in.
Wilson looks to throw the jab but Reed is out of range.
Reed changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wilson tries to avoid it but Reed manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wilson to the ground. Wilson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Reed misses with a takedown
and Wilson counters with a straight right hand.
Reed walks into a stiff left hand from Wilson.
Reed has his takedown stuffed
and Wilson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Wilson lunges at Reed with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Reed's hand.


Reed is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wilson lands a nice looking kick to the body. Reed takes a step back to recover.
Reed is breathing heavily.
Some wild striking there from Wilson.
Wilson moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Oh Reed is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wilson walks forward and throws a big overhand right! Reed drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Wilson swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from Reed's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Wilson!
During a confident post fight interview, James Wilson thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
