Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Heath Mercer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Leonidas Romano!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Mauricio Rocha and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Romano scores with a shoulder strike.
Mercer looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Mercer gets control of Romano's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mercer will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Romano works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Mercer is trying to get back to full guard.
Romano throwing shots but Mercer is blocking nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mercer really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Romano doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Mercer connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Romano pulls Mercer in close to prevent any damage.
Mercer has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Romano sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mercer's guard.
Mercer is looking to control Romano's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Mercer avoid being mounted?
Romano wants to stand up but Mercer has a hold of him and won't allow it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Romano tries for a takedown but Mercer circles away easily
and Mercer counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Romano thinking.

Mercer shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Romano manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Mercer wants to control but Romano is keeping busy.
Still in half guard, Romano seems content to control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Mercer tries a head kick but it misses.

Romano will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Romano manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mercer manages to get himself to full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Heath Mercer.
