PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Damian Brooks (ranked 1149 p4p, 162 weight class) and Ash Catchum (ranked 1716 p4p, 231 weight class). Brooks comes to the cage accompanied by Notorious B.I.G. - Juicy. Damian Brooks has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ash Catchum!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Some bone on bone action there as Catchum checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Brooks defending well as Catchum loads up on a big left hand.
Good standup being displayed there by Catchum as he connects with a hook.
Catchum loads up on a big right hand but Brooks slips the punch.
Catchum just misses with a punch to the body.
Brooks fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Catchum punishes Brooks's body with a nice straight punch.
Catchum works over Brooks's head and body with a nice combination.

Brooks throws a leg kick which misses Catchum's front leg but catches the back leg as Catchum tries to avoid it.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Brooks changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Catchum looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on Catchum's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The referee asks Brooks politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Brooks prefers to stall for the moment though.

Brooks has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Catchum is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

Catchum felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
