PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nate Diaz (ranked 6191 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kojiro Nakwana (ranked 5977 p4p, 584 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Nate Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kojiro Nakwana!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Shirou Masuda and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Nakwana tries to keep at a distance but Diaz has taken the fight into the clinch.

Diaz has Nakwana pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Diaz pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Nakwana tumbling to the mat - Diaz dives into Nakwana's guard.
Diaz is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Nakwana controls Diaz momentarily but Diaz frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Diaz stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nakwana swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Nakwana has his hands on Diaz's head, controlling the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Diaz closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nakwana to the mat! Nakwana manages to get full guard.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Nakwana keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nakwana pulls Diaz in close to prevent any damage.
Nakwana wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Diaz is now in half guard.
Diaz tries to pass the half guard into mount. Nakwana knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Nakwana tries to get to full guard but Diaz has control of the leg.
Diaz with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diaz seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nakwana for as long as he can get away with.

Diaz won't allow Nakwana to sweep him here.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nakwana is on top in guard.

Nakwana wants to pass the guard but Diaz is keeping the position.
Diaz really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Nakwana passes Diaz's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Diaz is trying to stand.
Nakwana wants to take a breather but Diaz is having none of it.

Nakwana seems to be working for a kimura but Diaz defends the submission attempt.

Nakwana is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nakwana is looking to take a break and control but Diaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nate Diaz dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Diaz closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Diaz lands in his opponent's guard.
Nakwana is trying to control the position but Diaz postures up.
Diaz wants to control from the top but Nakwana keeps moving.
Nakwana preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nakwana is looking to cinch up a triangle. Diaz throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Nakwana's body to avoid the submission. Nakwana has instead reached around Diaz's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Nakwana arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
