PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Harley Marsh (ranked 5960 p4p, 0 weight class) and Goreshade King (ranked 5979 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Harley Marsh!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Goreshade King!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, David Schapiro and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Marsh is defended easily by King.
Marsh sets himself, and King steps forward looking for the clinch! Marsh avoids it this time.
Marsh tries for a takedown but King sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

King closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Marsh breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
King misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

King forces Marsh back against the cage and clinches.
Marsh on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

King manages to pull guard.
King has his hands on Marsh's head, controlling the position.
Marsh stopping the sweep attempt from King.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marsh is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Marsh gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Marsh takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Marsh clinches up with King and pushes him back against the cage.
Marsh really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Marsh tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. King just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Harley Marsh. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Marsh tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
King stalling.

Marsh has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics King uses from the top position.
King is stalling in the full guard.
King tries to free his leg and advance position but Marsh is retaining full guard.

King is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
King wants to control from the top but Marsh keeps moving.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Marsh doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Marsh shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says King as he avoids it easily.
Marsh dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
King misses with a head kick.

King fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Marsh, pushing him back against the cage.

Marsh's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
King fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

Marsh gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows King to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Marsh is controlling King's posture.
Marsh controls King momentarily but King frees himself.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

King stands up from guard. Let's bang!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Goreshade King dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



King shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Marsh trying to hold on to King's head to control him but King postures up.
King looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Marsh is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

King seems to be looking for submissions.

Marsh trying to control from the bottom.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with King in particular looking to stall.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

King is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Marsh still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Marsh has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Marsh content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
King is looking for a sweep.

Marsh trying to control the position but King is working away.
Marsh happy to just control the position for now.
Marsh wants to lay and pray for a moment but King keeps working.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if King can do anything to dispel that myth.
King manages to get back to half guard.
King tries to get to full guard but Marsh has control of the leg.
King is staying active underneath Marsh, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Marsh controlling the pace.

Marsh prevents King from improving his position.
Marsh is trying to control. King wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Marsh wants to stand but King has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
King throws a sloppy head kick and Marsh moves out of range easily.

Marsh fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with King, pushing him back against the cage.
Marsh is trying to break free.
King jumps guard but Marsh turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

King jumps guard and drags Marsh to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Marsh got a little sloppy there for a moment and King has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Marsh has managed to get both his arms back between King's legs - danger averted.

King wants to get back to his feet but Marsh is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Marsh trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

King is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Marsh wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Harley Marsh will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Marsh fails to land the takedown.

Marsh shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in King's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Marsh trying to control but King is working from the bottom.

King working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Marsh doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Marsh manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Marsh will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

King is working an open guard so Marsh takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Marsh shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in King's guard.
King is looking to stand back up but Marsh counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by King.

King is staying active underneath Marsh, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Marsh decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Marsh throws a right and a left that King avoids nicely.
King dives in for a single leg takedown but Marsh sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
King takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
King avoids the head kick by Marsh.

King looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
King controls from within his opponent's guard.
King is working Marsh over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
King trying to control the position from guard on top but Marsh is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
King is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

King wants to control from the top but Marsh keeps moving.
King might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Marsh haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

King tries to sprawl but Marsh drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Marsh seems to be working for a kimura but King defends the submission attempt.

Marsh is looking for a kimura but King is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Marsh to get the leverage.

Marsh is controlling the pace.
King is looking to improve his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
The fighters are battling for position here. King manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
