PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gavin Blevins (ranked 8237 p4p, 0 weight class) and Reyes Gamble (ranked 6127 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Gavin Blevins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Reyes Gamble!
The judges for this bout are Darius Henderson, Bruno Hogan and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Blevins leaves Gamble with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Gamble throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Blevins counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Blevins.

Gamble decides to pull guard.
Gamble is trying to keep Blevins in close.
Blevins postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Blevins chips away with some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Gamble is looking for a triangle but Blevins pushes his legs off easily.
Blevins postures up in Gamble's guard and throws a big left but Gamble blocks it.
Blevins throwing strikes from guard but Gamble blocks nicely.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Blevins accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gamble is trying to keep Blevins in close.
Gamble has Blevins pulled in close to control his posture.
Gamble controls Blevins momentarily but Blevins frees himself.

Gamble is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Blevins is aware though and is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Blevins stopping the sweep attempt from Gamble.

Blevins keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gamble's head.
Blevins has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Blevins is looking to stand up but Gamble won't let him.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Gamble tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Blevins paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Blevins lifts his leg as if looking to counter with a high kick.

Gamble shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Blevins is trying to defend but Gamble finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Blevins working a defensive guard but Gamble manages to pass into side control anyway.
Gamble looks up at the clock and then as Blevins takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Gamble smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blevins prevents Gamble from improving position.
Blevins is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Gamble off and has taken his back!
Oooh a big shot gets through from Blevins. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Gamble trying to control the position but Blevins manages to sink in the hooks.
Gamble tries to roll but Blevins sticks to his back.

Blevins lands strikes to the head.
Gamble trying to control the hands but Blevins won't let him.
Blevins punishes Gamble with strikes from the back mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Blevins is not going to allow Gamble to sit and survive in this position.
Blevins lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Gamble.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Gamble moves to clinch but Blevins breaks away

so Blevins counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Gamble is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Blevins defends well.
Blevins knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gamble on the ground.
Gamble not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Blevins lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Gamble got a little sloppy there for a moment and Blevins has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gamble has managed to get both his arms back between Blevins's legs - danger averted.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Gamble shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Gamble showed some decent athleticism there.
Blevins is trying to control but Gamble manages to pass to mount!
Blevins is trying desperately to improve position.

Blevins swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Blevins keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Gamble looking to control but Blevins is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Gamble cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Reyes Gamble has got the better of the ground game so far.
Blevins tries to lock up and control but Gamble gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Blevins is squirming around, avoiding Gamble's attempts to control the action.
Gamble prevents Blevins from getting the reversal.
Gamble wants to control the pace but Blevins is squirming around nicely.
Blevins wants to hold on but Gamble pushes him away.

Reyes Gamble showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Gamble shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Blevins pinned against the cage. Blevins gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Blevins misses with a double jab.
Gamble throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Reyes Gamble seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gamble manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Blevins on his heels. He'll look to pass Blevins's guard now, I'm sure.

Gamble lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Blevins wants to hold on but Gamble pushes him away.
Gamble trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Gamble postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Blevins looks a forlorn figure.
Gamble fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Blevins is squirming around, avoiding Gamble's attempts to control the action.
Blevins is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Blevins can't escape the position.

Gamble has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Gamble is working for a guillotine from mount but Blevins frees his head quite easily.
Blevins is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Blevins is looking to improve his position but Gamble isn't that keen on the idea.
Gamble lands a couple of good shots and Blevins has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Blevins is really stuck here.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gamble throwing wild punches that miss their target.
Blevins is trying to break free.
