Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hipolito Rhodes (ranked 8509 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grayson Gitchell (ranked 6246 p4p, 0 weight class). Hipolito Rhodes has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Hipolito Rhodes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Grayson Gitchell!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gitchell gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Gitchell scores a nice knee to the body.

Gitchell breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
A head kick by Gitchell misses
and Rhodes counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Rhodes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gitchell is fending him off so far but Rhodes persists. Nope, Gitchell circles away and we're back to standing.
Rhodes fails to land the takedown.
Gitchell throws a head kick that misses.

Rhodes gets caught napping as Gitchell dives in and scores a takedown. Rhodes manages to retain guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rhodes is fighting off a takedown attempt but Gitchell is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Rhodes to the mat. Rhodes regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Rhodes had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gitchell defends it easily.

Rhodes is looking to sweep but instead, Gitchell has passed into half guard.

Gitchell is trying to work for a kimura but Rhodes is defending well.
Rhodes could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Gitchell is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Rhodes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Gitchell decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Gitchell fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Rhodes on the side of the head.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rhodes enables Gitchell to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rhodes manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Rhodes looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Gitchell puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Gitchell takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Gitchell seems to be looking for submissions.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gitchell passes to full mount!
Gitchell tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Rhodes is looking to improve his position but Gitchell isn't that keen on the idea.

It looks like Gitchell might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
BOOM! Gitchell connects with a massive shot to the dome!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rhodes wants to stand back up but Gitchell manages to pass into side control.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gitchell lands a nice hook to Rhodes's body. Rhodes takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.

Gitchell darts in and clinches Rhodes up against the cage.

Gitchell drags the fight down to the ground.

Gitchell pulls Rhodes in to control the position.
Rhodes chips away with some ground and pound.
Gitchell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gitchell has control of Rhodes's left arm, preventing Rhodes from doing any damage.
Gitchell tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Rhodes is looking to work some ground and pound but Gitchell has wrist control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Gitchell shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Rhodes manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gitchell's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gitchell won't allow Rhodes to sweep him here.
Rhodes can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Gitchell controls the pace.
Gitchell's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Rhodes looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Gitchell has picked Rhodes up and slammed him! Rhodes can't keep hold of the triangle and Gitchell manages to pass to side control!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gitchell is trying to get an arm triangle but Rhodes is defending well.

Gitchell decides to stand up, so the ref orders Rhodes to his feet.

Gitchell closes the distance and pushes Rhodes back into the cage.
Gitchell pushes Rhodes back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Gitchell has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Rhodes uses from the top position.

Rhodes got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gitchell has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Rhodes has managed to get both his arms back between Gitchell's legs - danger averted.
Gitchell is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Grayson Gitchell showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!

Gitchell is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rhodes defends it well.

Gitchell lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Gitchell seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Rhodes has one foot on Gitchell's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Gitchell fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Rhodes has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Rhodes jumps guard but Gitchell turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Gitchell shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rhodes's guard.
Hipolito Rhodes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Grayson Gitchell is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Gitchell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
