Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phenis Bagina (ranked 6146 p4p, 0 weight class) and Christopher Gladney (ranked 5900 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Phenis Bagina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Christopher Gladney!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Steve Montenegro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bagina gets tackled into the cage by Gladney. Gladney maintains the clinch.
Bagina tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Gladney smiles and moves away.
Gladney pivots, looking for a leg kick but Bagina is out of range and Gladney settles back down.
Bagina avoids a punch combination nicely.

Gladney gets a double leg takedown into Bagina's guard.
Gladney must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bagina is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Bagina thows a huge punch but Gladney dodges it nicely.
Bagina is looking to advance position but Gladney won't allow it.
Gladney wants to control but Bagina is keeping busy.
Gladney keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Bagina is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gladney is just riding it out for now. Bagina eventually gives up the hold.
Bagina is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Gladney has his hands clasped together around Bagina's back. He's all about the action.
Gladney looks like he's trying to stand up.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bagina seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Gladney kicks off Bagina and gets to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Bagina or perhaps it was just good defense by Gladney, which made it look bad.
Gladney throws a leg kick that misses.

Bagina gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Bagina tries to pull guard but Gladney forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Gladney is trying to break the clinch but Bagina has him pressed against the cage.

Gladney throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bagina works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

A close round but Christopher Gladney will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gladney lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Bagina avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Bagina shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Bagina was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Gladney bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
The fight stays on the outside here - Bagina looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Despite the aggression on Gladney's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Bagina throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gladney's waist but Gladney gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bagina off to one side.
Phenis Bagina seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gladney tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Bagina manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Gladney tries to free his leg and advance position but Bagina is retaining full guard.

Bagina working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Gladney has passed into half guard!

Gladney gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Gladney gets a double leg takedown into Bagina's guard.
Bagina bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gladney's guard.

Gladney striking off his back but it's not causing Bagina any problems.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bagina wants to control from the top but Gladney keeps moving.
Gladney wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Gladney working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bagina doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bagina manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Bagina is really struggling to control Gladney but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Bagina looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Bagina wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gladney keeps working.
Bagina is pressing down on Gladney's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gladney is holding on for now.
Gladney is trying to maintain the position but Bagina is very close to passing his half guard.
Gladney tries to roll over but Bagina keeps him under control.
Gladney is refusing to be controlled, as Bagina sits in half guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Gladney has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Bagina is on him like a limpet, forcing Gladney back against the cage.
Bagina prevents Gladney from breaking the clinch.
Bagina jumps guard but Gladney stands there with Bagina around his waist. Bagina gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Bagina ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Bagina no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Gladney slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Gladney is continuing to stall.

Christopher Gladney showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Bagina gets control of Gladney's arms and successfully pulls guard. Bagina will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Bagina has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gladney can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Bagina goes for a takedown attempt but Gladney pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Gladney has clasped his hands together around Bagina's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
Gladney is looking to take a break and control but Bagina is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Gladney tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gladney has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Bagina is just holding on here. Gladney manages to take his back.
Gladney wants to control the position but Bagina frees himself and scrambles - Gladney manages to regain control in side control.

Bagina seems a little lost for a moment, as Gladney dominates the positioning.
Gladney wants to control but Bagina is keeping him busy.

Bagina tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Gladney easily slips into full mount!
Bagina is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Gladney unloads with some shots from mount but Bagina bucks and avoids them well.
Poor strikes thrown by Gladney there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Phenis Bagina has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Christopher Gladney is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
