The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Damme cracks the inside of Hayes's front leg.
Hayes takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Hayes really is a fat lump.
Good exchange - Van Damme coming out on top.
Hayes gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
Van Damme fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Hayes on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Van Damme scores with a nice strike.
Van Damme connects with an inside leg kick.

Hayes feints and as Van Damme raises his hands in defense, Hayes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hayes won't allow Van Damme to sweep him here.

Van Damme really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hayes. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Van Damme tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Hayes wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Hayes has hold of Van Damme's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Van Damme tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Hayes cranks the arm and Van Damme screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Van Damme, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
