PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ronnie Mitchell (ranked 24732 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lee Baldock (ranked 6185 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Ronnie Mitchell has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Ronnie Mitchell seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Ronnie Mitchell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Lee Baldock!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Sam Margolis and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mitchell defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Baldock.
Baldock should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Mitchell slaps away a takedown attempt from Baldock, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Mitchell seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Baldock shoots in but Mitchell avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ronnie Mitchell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lee Baldock.

Baldock closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Mitchell stalling in the clinch but Baldock improves position.

Baldock gets control of Mitchell's arms and successfully pulls guard. Baldock will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Mitchell has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Mitchell keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Baldock's head.
Mitchell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Mitchell decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Baldock throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mitchell's waist but Mitchell gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Baldock off to one side.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Mitchell is trying to pull guard but Baldock has him pressed against the cage.
Mitchell tries to pull guard but Baldock won't allow it.

Baldock pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Mitchell.
Baldock throws a big counter head kick but Mitchell avoids it with no problem.
Mitchell really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Baldock has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Mitchell uses from the top position.

That was a close round but I would say that Ronnie Mitchell will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Mitchell is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Baldock can do to turn this around?

Baldock looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mitchell is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Mitchell wants to get up but he can't break Baldock's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Mitchell loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Baldock looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Baldock will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Baldock seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Baldock breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Mitchell scores with a sloppy right hand. Baldock should have avoided that one.

Mitchell throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Baldock rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Mitchell moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Baldock looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Mitchell stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Mitchell scores with a head kick. Baldock tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Baldock shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mitchell as he avoids it easily.
Mitchell went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
Mitchell misses with a two punch combination.
Mitchell throws a right and a left that Baldock avoids nicely.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mitchell closes the distance and clinches up with Baldock, looking for a takedown. Mitchell pushes Baldock against the cage but Baldock circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ronnie Mitchell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Baldock on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Baldock shoots in looking for a takedown. Mitchell tries to sprawl out of it but Baldock keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mitchell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Baldock has managed to clinch.
Baldock is pushing Mitchell up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.

Baldock pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mitchell jumps guard but Baldock stands there with Mitchell around his waist. Mitchell gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Baldock is looking to sweep but instead, Mitchell has passed into half guard.

Mitchell is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Baldock doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mitchell.
Mitchell slips a nice elbow through Baldock's hands, connecting with Baldock's forehead.

And that's the end of the fight!
Lee Baldock comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Baldock has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
