PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vern Lang (ranked 24345 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcos Andrade (ranked 23946 p4p, 0 weight class). Andrade has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Marcos Andrade is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sloppy strikes from Andrade. Those never looked like landing.
Marcos Andrade seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Andrade looks winded!
Lang throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Andrade on the side of the head.
Andrade throws an off balance right hand

and Lang counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Lang.

Lang gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Lang shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Lang fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Lang crunches a lovely knee into Andrade's ribcage.
Lang putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Andrade in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lang jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Andrade walks away with a smile on his face. Lang gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Lang closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

A bit of stalling here from Lang.
Lang connects with a knee to the head.
Lang misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Lang ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Lang no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Andrade won't allow Lang to sweep him here.
Lang controls Andrade momentarily but Andrade frees himself.

Lang tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Lang is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Andrade to keep the fight standing.

The referee calls for Lang to work.
Lang unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Lang fails to pull the fight into his guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Lang is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Lang is pulling down on Andrade's head. It's preventing any offense from Andrade, at least for the moment.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lang bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Andrade's guard.

Lang stands up and waves to Andrade to follow him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Lang shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Andrade misses with a straight left.

Lang shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Andrade manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Lang makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Andrade wriggles free and stands up.

Lang has taken the fight to the clinch.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Lang slips a jab and a cross from Andrade.
A looping hook to the body misses from Andrade. Lang does a little dance to reset his feet.
Andrade slaps away a takedown attempt from Lang, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Lang shoots for a takedown but Andrade saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Andrade on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Andrade rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Lang counters with a nice uppercut.

Lang gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Lang gets to his feet. Andrade looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Andrade misses with a looping right.

Lang is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Andrade's half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Andrade pushes Lang off and gets back to his feet.

Andrade feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Langs jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Lang closes the distance and clinches up with Andrade, looking for a takedown. Lang pushes Andrade against the cage but Andrade circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

A nice combination there by Andrade.
Lang takes one to the chin there.
Lang lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Lang misses with a takedown attempt - Andrade sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Lang closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Andrade quickly recovers to half guard.

Lang is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Andrade defends it well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Andrade enables Lang to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Andrade manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Lang is standing up over Andrade. Andrade looks to escape but Lang dives into side control.
Andrade wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Lang throws a strike aimed at the side of Andrade's head but Andrade avoids it well.

Lang is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Andrade is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Andrade is trying to control Lang's posture but Lang avoids it.
Lang has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lang decides to stand up, so the ref orders Andrade to his feet.
Andrade will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Lang closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Andrade wants to control but Lang is keeping busy.

Lang is working for a kimura but Andrade is defending it quite comfortably.

Lang clinches up with Andrade and pushes him back against the cage.

Lang lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Andrade or not.

I would just about give that final round to Marcos Andrade.
